Oregon Beer News, 06/20/2013

Oregon BeerHere is the Oregon beer news for Thursday, the 20th of June. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news, so check back often. If you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that posted as well.

Today in Bend is the 2nd annual Fermentation Celebration, a “beer walk” celebrating Central Oregon’s breweries and beer culture that’s taking place in Bend’s Old Mill District. All 20 of Central Oregon’s breweries will be represented along with the local homebrew club, all pouring samples of beer: $20 gets you the official Silipint plus 8 drink tickets, good for 4-ounce pours. It takes place from 5 to 10pm, and I’ll have more on that in a follow-up post.

Golden Valley Brewery (Beaverton) is releasing their annual Kölsch today at their Beaverton pub, and it’s the first iteration of this brew by new Brewmaster Jesse Shue; accordingly, there are specials and everything: “Our new head Brewmaster, Jesse Shue, will be joining us for the release of this year’s Kolsch! As a bonus we are tapping two of our NAOBF beers as well! We’ve lined up raffles, giveaways and live music too! It’s gonna be a blast! We’ll tap the kegs around 3 and sell $2 Kolschs’ till we blow the 1st keg! Jesse and his gang should be up here around 5ish. Come, drink, eat and be merry. Music, raffles, giveaways and more, we’ll see you here!”

McMenamins Kennedy School (Portland) is having a limited-edition beer tasting tonight featuring a beer with a mouthful of a name: Wee Billy Big Chin’s 80 Schillin’ Scottish Ale. “A deep red, mahogany colored brew. It is crafted with roasted black barley which yields a dark rich color and a subtle roasted flavor! The hop character is low, light, floral and herbal, allowing its signature malt profile to be the highlight! Approachable and drinkable, it is perfect for those warm summer evenings!” It starts at 5pm and you know the drill—when it’s gone, it’s gone.

The Green Dragon (Portland) is hosting Sisters’ Three Creeks Brewing tonight for a meet the brewer and tasting starting at 5pm. “Three Creeks brews on 10 barrel brewing system in Sisters, Oregon. They have brought some special selections for us to try tonight – it’s gonna be packed so get here early!”

7 Devils Brewing (Coos Bay): This up-and-coming brewery is progressing slowly, perhaps more slowly than they’d hoped. They posted on Facebook today: “We’ve been getting tons of questions about when we are opening. Rest assured, we are doing EVERYTHING we can; we are getting there! Coos Bay is a comparatively challenging environment for new businesses, but we WILL get past the red tape!” That’s how things can often go! I’m looking forward to seeing them open; three beers they list that they will have are “Lighthouse Session Ale, Groundswell IPA, and Advocate; a Northwest style pale ale.”
