Oregon BeerHere’s the beer news from around Oregon for Tuesday the 12th of June. As usual I’ll be updating this post periodically throughout the day, so check back often for any updates. And if you have some news you’d like to share, please contact me and I can get it posted.

Falling Sky Brewing (Eugene): Today they are having a release party for their new Leadbelly Stout, featuring live blues music, $3 pints of the Stout, and a $12 Stout and pulled pork sandwich deal, all starting at 4pm. From their menu page come details of the beer: it’s an oatmeal stout, 5.4% abv, described as, “Roasted malt aromas chorus with chocolatey stone fruit flavor to a smooth refrain of coffee and roast.” Sounds good!

Pints Brewing (Portland) is going to be in Bend this Friday the 15th at the Platypus Pub pouring beers and holding a meet the brewer event with head brewer Zach Beckwith. This will be a great opportunity for Central Oregonians to try Pints beers, one of Portland’s newest breweries and heretofore unavailable outside of there. It runs from 6 to 8pm and there will be 3 or 4 Pints beers available (lineup forthcoming).

Portland Beer Week continues, and a definite highlight tonight is a Stone Brewing Brewers Dinner featuring Stone Brewmaster Mitch Steele. It runs from 6 to 11pm and features five courses paired with Stone brews (of course) and costs $75.

Medford Beer Week likewise continues with a number of tastings and events, including an Ayinger Beer Dinner at Frau Kemmling’s Schoolhaus Brewhaus at 6:30pm, featuring five courses for $45 paired with Ayinger beers.

This is unusual (and a bummer): Full Sail Brewing out of Hood River has apparently taken steps to get a small Rhode Island brewery to change its name. From the article: “The owners of a Westerly microbrewery have filed a federal lawsuit in an attempt to keep using their nautical brand name. Jennifer Brinton, an owner of Grey Sail Brewing Co., tells the Westerly Sun the company acted preemptively after receiving a phone call from Hood River Ore.-based Full Sail Brewing Co. telling them to stop using the Grey Sail name and logo.” Apparently Full Sail is distributed in Rhode Island but doing a quick glance at their branding and canned beer offerings (you can see some on their Facebook page) I doubt that beer from the two companies would be confused (or identities diluted). Overall I’m surprised that Full Sail would have even moved on something like this! (I’ll do a little more digging and email Full Sail.)

Cascade Brewing (Portland): Tonight’s Tap It Tuesday at 6pm is featuring Orange Sorbet which sounds amazing! “This Northwest style sour ale is a Blenders’ Reserve triple ale that was aged in oak for more than three years. Aromas of tart tangerine are noticed up front. Bright, tart orange peel and sweet malts on the palate give way to a crisp, tart orange finish that lingers. This would be a nice refreshing sipper between bites of cheese, or a pleasant sour treat for a sunny day on the patio. 9% ABV, $7 glass, $2.50 taster.”

Silver Moon Brewing (Bend): This week’s Growler Power Hour specials (where growler fills of select beers cost only $6 from 4 to 6pm on Tuesday and Wednesday) are Lincoln Lager and Snake Bite Porter. Good deals! The Lager is particularly drinkable for hot weather.

Crux Fermentation Project (Bend) received its first shipment of grain today! That means with their grand opening date of June 30th that there will be beer likely being brewed within the next day or two!
