Hopworks Urban Brewery (Portland) is having a great day today: it’s their BikeBar’s second anniversary, so they’re celebrating there all day with $2(!) HUB beers all day, 10% off HUB gear, and then the release of Ace of Spades Imperial IPA at 5pm which is also rolling out at the main pub. Ace of Spades is their 9%, 100+ IBU GABF gold medal winner (2009) that is highly anticipated each year. It will be released on draft and will hit the shelves in 22-ounce bottles. Make sure to track some down.
Deschutes Brewery (Bend) has an event tonight that I’m excited about: Firkin’-A: Traditional Ales, part of their Co-Op series running monthly throughout the summer (“a series of FREE, cooperative events designed to educate the community on beer and food with a donation opportunity for local non-profit organizations”). Tonight’s event from 5:30 to 7:30 is all about cask ales. “Brewers from Worthy Brewing Company, McMenamins, 10 Barrel Brewing Company, Brewers Union Local 180, & Deschutes Brewery will feature cask beer and share tasters of their product while educating you on the process. Enjoy great times, conversations, & small English Bites paired with these traditional ales!” Can’t wait!
The Beer Weeks roll on today, with Portland offering up a bunch of events (including the HUB items above) like a Progressive Dinner Tour, New Belgium Brewmasters dinner, and more. Over in Medford, they’ve got events like a Southern Oregon Brewing line dance party, a Women Enjoying Beer mixer, “Heart of Darkness Ale Trail” and more as well. You will not be lacking for things to do on either side of the state this week!
Oakshire Brewing (Eugene): Today is the release of their new reserve beer I blogged about yesterday, Frederic C. Noir, which will be available in 750ml bottles at their Public House starting at 6pm tonight. This is one of the more interesting beer descriptions I’ve seen lately: “We brewed this farmhouse ale with Goddess Green Oolong Tea; then laid it to slumber for two years with Brettanomyces Clausenii in Pinot Noir barrels.” I haven’t seen a price but I’m sure you won’t want to pass this one up.
Cascade Brewing (Portland): Their Tap It Tuesday event at the Barrel House at 6pm tonight is featuring “Live” Honeyed Combs: “This NW style sour wheat ale was barrel aged six months, then blended with organic honey and cinnamon. Bright aromas of cinnamon and sweet honey are noticed up front. Soft honey and cinnamon notes dance on the palate with hints of vanilla. The finish is of silky smooth honey and vanilla with a lingering cinnamon note. 7.25 ABV / $7 Glass /$2.50 Taster”
This one sneaks up on me every year: the Molalla Brew Fest is taking place this weekend and kicking off on Thursday starting at 5pm. This takes place (of course) in the small western Oregon town of Molalla, and here’s their description: “3rd Annual Molalla Brew Fest will take place in conjunction with Downtown Molalla’s 2nd Friday Celebration – June 13 – 15, 2013. Located at 123 E. Ross Street, the festival will feature over 26 craft beers on tap, cider, wine, great food and live music!” It’s $20 for the mug and ticket package (and presumably $1 per extra ticket).
