Oregon Beer News, 06/11/2012

Oregon BeerHappy Monday and I hope everyone had a good weekend! Here’s the news in Oregon beer for the 11th of June. As always, I’ll be updating this news periodically throughout the day, so check back often for the latest; and if you have news to share, please contact me and I will be able to get it posted.

Deschutes Brewery (Bend): Coming up this Saturday the 16th is one of Deschutes’ signature events, their Barrel Aged Beer Tasting! It’s an eight-course (or eight-beer, depending on how you look at it) small-plate beer pairing featuring all barrel-aged brews—some of their bottled selections like The Abyss 2010 and Collage, some specialty beers like Malheur Wild Ale and Ryed n Trees of Doom Dunkel—and delicious, inventive food. It’s a fantastic event and runs from 6 to 9pm, and costs $45 per ticket. Clear your calendar for Saturday night!

Portland Beer Week is rolling right along; at APEX they are kicking off their “California Beer Week” while Saraveza is presenting a “Sour Beer Blending Symposium” with New Belgium Brewing (two sessions) that culminates in a unique, hands-on blending workshop.

Meanwhile Medford Beer Week is also in full swing with a number of events taking place today, including a meet the brewer with Walkabout Brewing, tasting events, and a couple of beer dinners: at Bella Union featuring northern California’s Mad River Brewing, and at Elements featuring Lagunitas Brewing.

Bend Brewing (Bend) is today running a discounted growler special all day: “Discounted growler refills on any of our 5 signature beers. (Hefe, Golden, IPA, Outback & Porter) What beer are you going to fill your growler with today?” Unfortunately I didn’t see a price on those.

Alameda Brewing (Portland): I missed this the first time around (back on June 1) but Alameda posted a photo of their Fourth of July Ale and I just liked the name: My My Miss American Rye, in bottles. Plus, the idea of a July 4th beer is kind of cool.
