Oregon Beer News, 06/06/2012

Oregon BeerHappy Wednesday (halfway through the week!) and here’s the news in beer from around Oregon for the 6th of June. As usual I’ll be updating this post periodically throughout the day, so check back often for the latest updates. If you have news you’d like to share, please contact me and I can get it posted.

Lompoc Brewing (Portland): They brewed a collaboration beer with Migration Brewing, called Awry Wit, and today is the release party for the beer, taking place at Lompoc’s Sidebar from 4 to 10pm. It sure sounds like a fun beer: “We used European Pilsner malt as a base along with about 20% rye malt in the grist. Featured hops included Perle, Santiam and Mt. Hood, plus we added grapefruit zest and crushed coriander to the kettle at the end of boil. The beer was then fermented with three yeast strains: two Belgian wit strains and our house 1056 ale yeast. This beer is pale straw in color and has a floral nose of citrus with light fruit hints and a spicy dry finish. 5.6% ABV, 26 IBU. As with all of our release parties, there will be free food!”  Be sure to hit the Sidebar tonight if you want to try it.

A press release making the rounds about the Oregon Brewers Festival (coming up next month!) highlights how the OBF generated $23.2 million for the local economy last year! “The OBF generated $16.24 million in direct and $6.97 million in indirect (additional input purchases made by local businesses) expenditures. Additionally, the OBF generated $5.9 million in induced expenditures (local business owners, suppliers and employee expenditures related to direct and indirect expenditures).” Brewpublic is running the full press release, and it’s great—nice to see beer generating that kind of economic impact. So the question is, who’s going to the OBF this year to help out the economy?

Oakshire Brewing (Eugene) has a new Single Batch beer on tap at their tasting room, appropriate themed for this time of year: Graduation Ale 2012. And if you want some for your graduation? “Need a keg for your graduation celebration? No problem, we’ll reserve one for you. Email amanda@oakbrew.com for details.”  (Needless to say you should probably be of the legal drinking age for this.)

Crux Fermentation Project (Bend): They are planning to open their doors on June 30, and as such this Saturday the 9th they are having a job fair: “…with two sessions Saturday, June 9th, from 10am-Noon or 3pm–5pm. Our ideal candidate has a passion for beer and is eager to learn more about our craft so they can share our love of beer with all who join us at the Crux. The brewery will be a fun, fast paced, and sometimes down right hectic place to be. Available Positions Include: Beer Stewards (Bartenders), Good Time Instigators (Servers), Kitchen Cruxologists (Line & Prep Cooks), Food Wranglers (Busser/Runners/Dishwasher), Cruxconductor (Front of House Manager).”
