Oregon BeerHere’s the Oregon beer news for Tuesday, June 5. As usual I’ll be updating this post periodically throughout the day so check back often for the latest updates. If you have news to share please contact me and I can get it posted as well.

Medford Beer Week is starting on Sunday, running from June 10 through 16! This is the second year for the southern Oregon Beer Week and they have a good list of events posted, culminating with the Southern Oregon Craft Brew Festival on Saturday the 16th. Like Portland Beer Week, they have an official beer too: Walkabout Brewing has brewed Medford Beer Week Imperial IPA which will be tapped on Sunday at their tasting room from 2 to 6pm.

And speaking of beer festivals, this weekend (Friday and Saturday) is the Molalla Brewfest, taking place in the town of Molalla (about 32 miles south of Portland, 15 miles northeast of Silverton). (Note that “main” link is outdated, Lisa Morrison has the updated info here.) It goes from 5pm to midnight on Friday and noon to midnight on Saturday, with free admission (though the beer tasting costs money of course), live music, and food. That could be good excursion for the day!

Cascade Brewing (Portland): Their Tap It Tuesday event tonight at 6 is featuring Spiced Red Apple: “This Northwest sour style triple ale was barrel aged for 16 months in French oak. Aromas of deep, rich, red apple skins and light, sweet pepper notes are noticed up front. Sweet candy notes and apple skins on the palate lead to a light pepper and dry, sweet apple finish. A few of these just might have you bobbing for apples! 9.5% ABV, $6.50 glass.”

Deschutes Brewery (Bend): There are still remaining tickets for tonight’s Deschutes Brewery University on Summer Beers, where you’ll learn about, well, summer beers: “Our focus this month is on beers enjoyed during the long days of summer in countries with strong brewing traditions including Germany, Mexico, Czech Republic, and of course the good ‘ol U.S. of A. Sample and learn more about pilsners, Vienna lagers, kolschbiers, and more. Tasty summer inspired snacks will be provided to cleanse your pallet between tastings.” It runs from 6 to 9pm, and though the online ticket link is inactive you can still purchase the $25 entry at the door. (Or call 541-382-9242.)

McMenamins Wilsonville Old Church & Pub (Wilsonville): Tonight they are holding their “Church Firkin Tuesday” beer tasting, featuring a limited-edition tasting starting at 4pm at the relatively new location: Spring Fling Golden Ale. “According to Old Church brewer Mark Goodwin this is cask-conditioned firkin full of a festive and zesty little beer. Not too hop forward but you will know they are there with its floral and sweet upfront nose and initial taste. Its an easy drinker for you to enjoy sitting in the sun.” It’s an easy-drinking beer at 5.4% abv and when it’s gone, it’s gone.

Hopwork Urban Brewery (Portland) has a new release tonight as well: “Hopworks Single Hop IPX series, Citra A$$ Down on at both brewpubs tonight at 5:00. This is the fourth in our single hop beers.” Clever name—clearly Citra is the single hop this time around!

Silver Moon Brewing (Bend): This week’s Growler Power Hour picks are Bridge Creek Pilsner and their summer seasonal Getsum Pale Ale, both really nice beers. Their Power “Hour” takes place from 4 to 6pm on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and during that time you can get a growler fill for only $6 of those two beers.

If you attend the opening kickoff party for Portland Beer Week, you’re in for an additional treat, as they posted on Facebook today: “We have decided to Giveaway for FREE official Portland Beer Week pint glasses that are also good for discounts at 9 great PDX bars and breweries. Get them FREE only at our official Kickoff Party.” Very cool!

  1. The Molalla Brewfest looks great! Thanks for the heads up. Looks like Fire Mountain Brewing, Gilgamesh, and Klamath Basin Brewing will be there. I can’t wait.
