Here’s the news in Oregon beer for Monday, the fourth of June. As usual I will be updating this post periodically throughout the day, so keep checking back for the latest updates. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get it posted.

Portland Beer Week starts this week, on Thursday the 7th! There are a ton of great things going on in Portland from the 7th through the 17th, including the Rye Beer Fest and Fruit Beer Festival this week to help kick off the week (which I’ll have more to write about later). It’s going to be a good time to be in Portland!

Hopworks Urban Brewery (Portland): Today is the first anniversary of the Hopworks BikeBar! All day today (from 11 to 11), “Join Hopworks as we celebrate the 1st Anniversary of BikeBar on N. Williams with $2 beers all day and other fun surprises.” Be sure to ride on by for the best deal on HUB beers you’ll find today!

Eleven Oregon breweries were medal winners at this year’s North American Beer Awards, which I listed yesterday; Pelican Pub & Brewery and Barley Brown’s Brewpub each brought home the most medals, but other winners were 10 Barrel, Bend Brewing, Boneyard Beer, Caldera Brewing, Deschutes Brewery, Klamath Basin, Oakshire, the Ram (in Salem), and Widmer. Big congrats to all!

Flat Tail Brewing (Corvallis) is going to be releasing a new bottled beer: their Licentious Goat Herbed Imperial IPA, a big IIPA spiced with damiana and horny goat weed. This is definitely an interesting beer; I tried it last month during a visit to Corvallis and about it I wrote, “Pungent and herbal, almost like fresh cut milk thistle. Vegetal note in the flavor—dandelion or nettle greens. Bitter but more herbal than hoppy.” Looks like it’ll be a decent sized bottling run too, so keep an eye out to try this when it hits the shelves.

Deschutes Brewery (Bend): Tomorrow is the Brewery’s June edition of their “Deschutes Brewery University” and the topic is Summer Beers. “Our focus this month is on beers enjoyed during the long days of summer in countries with strong brewing traditions including Germany, Mexico, Czech Republic, and of course the good ‘ol U.S. of A. Sample and learn more about pilsners, Vienna lagers, kolschbiers, and more. Tasty summer inspired snacks will be provided to cleanse your pallet between tastings.”  Cost is $25 and there are still tickets left; the class/seminar runs from 6 to 9pm.

Gigantic Brewing (Portland): Stumptown’s newest brewery is expanding their taproom hours already: “Due to popular demand (the Apex of which was a woman who fell to her knees in supplication when she realized we were closed last Tuesday) the Gigantic Brewery Tap Room & Champagne Lounge is now open 7 days a week. Mon-Fri 3-9pm, Sat 2-9pm, Sun 2-8pm. Thank you all!”  Now I just need to get to Portland!
