Oregon Beer News, 06/01/2017

Oregon BeerReady or not, it’s already June! The start of these summer months means beer events and festivals galore—both Eugene and Portland Beer Weeks are starting next week, for instance. With that in mind, here’s the Oregon beer news for this Thurdsay, June 1. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.

Portland’s The BeerMongers is hosting a day of self-indulgence today starting at 4pm. What does that mean exactly? “It’s my birthday! What else would I want to do but drink beer at my favorite watering hole and eat Pizza with my friends. I will choose some of my most loved beers for a special draft list. We will have Ranch Pizza as a sponsor. Please join me for a PARTY!” Be sure to wish Sean Campbell a happy birthday if you stop by.

Belmont Station is hosting Baerlic Brewing for a bottle release of three new beers tonight from 5 to 8pm: “One of Portland’s best breweries will be in the house to help remind you of why they are one of the best. Jim Parker will be telling jokes and pouring samples of 2 year round beers, 2 new seasonals, a brand new Bourbon barrel aged beer, and a Medal winner at Oregon Beer Awards.” View the beers available on the events page.

McMenamins 23rd Avenue Bottle Shop (Portland) is hosting the Portland release of Green Mist New England IPA from the McMenamins on the Columbia location, from 6 to 8pm tonight: “Come raise a pint of the newest hazy New England Style IPA from McMenamins on the Columbia Brewer Jesse Grover. Let him pour you a sample before you commit and he’ll tell you all about this emergent style that’s popping up all over the country.”

Portland’s Lompoc Brewing announced yesterday the availability of their popular Proletariat Red in cans, available in six-packs (as well as on draft and in 22-ounce bottles, of course). Good move! From the press release: “The cans can be purchased at the brewery’s Fifth Quadrant and Sidebar locations (3901 N Williams Ave.), and in select stores throughout the Portland metropolitan area. Lompoc has announced a BBQ party to celebrate the release of the cans on Saturday, June 17, from 4pm to 9pm at its Fifth Quadrant pub. There will be corn hole games, prizes, BBQ food specials and a fire pit. The six packs will feature special pricing that day, and the brewery’s Lömpocker Hoppy Kölsch and new Lomporter will be available on draft. Admission to the event is free.”

The same press release mentions another new beer as well: “Lompoc is also debuting a new Select Series later this month: Barrel Aged Red on Rye will be released in 500ml bottles and on draft on Thursday, June 22 at 4pm at Sidebar. Barrel Aged Red on Rye was aged in Heaven Hill Rye Whiskey barrels for 10 months. Crimson in color, it features oak in the nose to complement a malty body with caramel flavors. It was brewed with Rauch malt, giving off a touch of smoke and acidulated malt giving off a slight tartness (6% ABV).”

Ninkasi Brewing (Eugene): Today their Pints for a Cause is a kickoff party for Pride Month: “Kick Off Pride Month with a benefit for Eugene / Springfield Pride and the HIV Alliance hosted by Ninkasi. All day June 1st, 1$ for every pint sold will be donated to the Eugene / Springfield Pride Festival and the HIV Alliance for Prevention and Education Programs. DJ Jordin Trainwreck will be playing your favorite PRIDE songs this Thursday at our Pride kickoff Party at Ninkasi Brewing, 6:30PM to 8:30PM Jordin Trainwreck McFly HIV Alliance. Trai La Trash will be performing two sets at the PRIDE kick off event this Thursday, 6:30 to 8:30 PM at Ninkasi Brewing HIV Alliance.” Get down there and help out with a pint or 3!

ColdFire Brewing (Eugene): They have a new beer on tap now that you should check out: “Our Golden Super Brett collaboration with Yachats Brewing is in our taproom! It’s an incredibly tasty Belgian golden strong ale that has been barrel aged with a mix of bacteria and Brettanomyces and finished with Idaho 7 hops. At 11.4% this beer is BIG, and has a soft delivery despite its overarching dry, tart effervescent character & crisp finish. The light crackery Pilsner malt gives way to a complex sour tone with a subtle funk. Flavors of tart cherry and apricot are followed by a mild pepper note.”

Uptown Market (Beaverton) is hosting Ex Novo Brewing and Agrarian Ales for a tap takeover(ish) event from 5 to 8pm today: “Ex Novo from here in Portland and Agrarian Ales from Eugene are coming together for one epic event! Before you get TOO excited, no, they didn’t do a collaboration. Yet. Maybe one day. But! They will be slingin’ some awesome brews and rafflin’ off some fun stuff. Come meet the brewery reps and have a good time!”

Grixsen Brewing (Portland) is teaming up with Dollar For Portland at The Civic Taproom for a fundraising tap takeover from 6 to 9pm tonight: “The Civic Taproom is teaming up with Grixsen Brewing Company and Dollar For Portland for a tap takeover and fundraising event for people living in Portland that need help with medical expenses. Stop by and talk to the Dollar for Portland team as well as represenatives from Grixsen Brewery. Taste some awesome beer and enter for a chance to win prizes.”
