Oregon Beer News, 06/22/2018

Oregon Beer, McMenamins Arata KriekJune 22 is National Radler Day so you know what you have to do—blend up a lighter beer with lemonade or citrus soda and enjoy the warm first weekend of summer! It’ll be a great accompaniment to the Oregon beer news for this weekend. You’ll find the weekend’s news and events roundup below, and as usual I will be updating this post throughout the day with additional items as I find them for the weekend. Pour up that radler and let’s go.

Friday, 6/22

McMenamins has a new, rare, specialty beer from the Edgefield brewery that’s quite unlike anything the company has done before: Arata Kriek, billed as a cherry lambic. Less that 200 bottles were produced, and on Friday at 6pm, the 23rd Avenue Bottle Shop in Portland is hosting the release party for the beer. Brewpublic has the description of it: “Arata Kriek is deep red, pleasantly sour and packed with cherry flavor from aging on hundreds of pounds of Fuji Cherries. This rare barrel-aged offering was brewed and fermented with wild yeast and mixed cultures in the summer of 2015 and has been aging in Hogshead Whiskey barrels from the Edgefield Distillery for two-and-a-half years, one spent entirely on fruit. Arata Kriek finished at 5.03% ABV.”

The 23rd Avenue Bottle Shop is also releasing cans of Sunflower IPA at the same time. Overall should be a good evening at the Shop for new beers!

Oregon Cider Week rolls into its first weekend, with the following events happening on Friday:

And while it’s not listed on the Cider Week page, The Bier Stein in Eugene is hosting Corvallis’ 2 Towns Ciderhouse for the release party for La Mûre, 2 Towns’ lambic-style cider: “Join us from 5-8pm on June 22nd to celebrate the release of LA MÛRE! Try your luck at the reverse raffle to win 2Towns swag! LA MÛRE is a lambic style cider brewed with Oregon grown Marion blackberries, sourced with lactobacillus and aged in Willamette Valley pinto noir barrels. Inspired by the historic lambic beers of Belgium, La Mûre embodies the Flemish styles of old. Northwest apples and Oregon grown Marion blackberries are fermented wild with Lactobacillus. Aged in Willamette Valley pinot noir barrels for one year, this unique cider is then removed from these dusty casks and bottle conditioned, revealing complex aromatics and a lactic tang that only time can unfold.”

Belmont Station (Portland) is hosting an evening with Revision Brewing from 5 to 8pm: “Here’s your chance to meet a few of the fine folks that keep the beers at Revision Brewing flowing: Jeremy Warren (CEO/Brewmaster) and Darla Roberts (VP, Sales & Marketing)! Whole Lotta Ruckus, described as a “Northeast-Style Double IPA, combining the best of Northeastern tropical juiciness and West Coast piney aggressiveness,” will be on tap, along with State of Haze, a hazy IPA! And of course, there’s Revision offerings in the bottle shop to take home.”

Saturday, 6/23

Crux Fermentation Project (Bend) is celebrating its sixth anniversary with Cruxapalooza 7 this Saturday! “Cruxapalooza is coming! We’re not going to let a little construction project prevent us from celebrating our anniversary and the community that supports us. So, we hope you’ll come down and join us for a day full of craft beer, food, and live music. Ural Thomas & the Pain is headlining our little hootenanny. Lance Canales & The Flood will be playing for us again and Bend’s own The Beautiful Train Wrecks and Soul’d Out will join Portland’s Mission Spotlight to round out the day’s line-up. Did we mention that there will be 30+ beers on tap plus some fun stuff for the kiddos?” Don’t miss out!

Bend’s Boneyard Beer is hosting a Taproom Appreciation Party on Saturday from 11 to 5pm: “Join us June 23rd from 11AM – 5PM as we gear up to say “farewell” to our taproom and prep for the opening of the Boneyard Pub. We will have a HUGE blowout garage sale, killer draft list inside the taproom, fantastic food from F Bomb Burritos & pints in the parking lot. The Boneyard taproom at 37 NW Lake Place will remain open until the Boneyard Pub at 1955 NE Division Street opens (TBD). Thanks to everyone that has supported us over the years! Come be a part of history!” That’s right, the Pub is getting close to opening!

Wolves & People Farmhouse Brewery (Newberg) celebrates its second anniversary on Saturday with Felicitation 2018 bottle release: “Two years in, Wolves & People Farmhouse Brewery will host their annual “Felicitation” birthday bottle release featuring their own beers and other acclaimed ales from around the U.S. on Saturday, June, 23rd. The celebration will toast the brewery’s big second year, which included new highly-rated beers, a system expansion, national accolades, and sales into several U.S. states (Washington and New York). This year’s version of “Felicitation” is an 100% oak-fermented and barrel-aged, Brett-kissed saison with a blend of local jostaberries and raspberries (500ml). Available in limited quantities, advance tickets are available to the bottle release day and to reserve one bottle of Felicitation in advance.”
