Oregon Beer, McMenamins EdgefieldToday, June 14, is National Bourbon Day! Bourbon and beer are a natural pairing—I mean, bourbon is made from beer, technically—so be sure to enjoy some sort of bourbon-influenced beer to commemorate the occasion! Here’s the Oregon beer news as well for this Thursday, which I will be periodically updating throughout the afternoon.

McMenamins Edgefield (Troutdale) has a limited-edition beer tasting taking place today from 5 to 8pm, offering a chance to meet the brewers and sample a new beer. No specific on the beer being poured are posted as of this writing, but there are some interesting beers coming out of Troutdale so you won’t go wrong.

Bend’s Platypus Pub is welcoming California’s Lost Coast Brewing from 5 to 7pm for a beer tasting: “One more in our Thursday night tastings, this time with Lost Coast brewing. You might know them for the tangerine wheat but they have so much more great beer to offer. Stop in for free samples and discuss the beer with a rep from the brewery. Thursday 5 to 7 ish.”

De Garde Brewing (Tillamook) has new beer releases out today you’ll want to explore: “The Maison – This beer is a blend of three different years of spontaneous, oak barrel fermented, and barrel aged ale. Brewed with a grist of 42% northwest grown unmalted wheat, and 58% northwest grown and malted pale barley, it is boiled for three hours with a large amount of local four year aged Cascade and Willamette hops. After spending the night in our coolship where it pulls the local yeast and bacteria from our environment, it is transferred into 500L oak puncheon barrels for fermentation and aging on the lees. When ready, we choose a harmonious blend from three different years of barrels, in this case originating from 2015, 2016, and 2017, with an average age of this composition being nearly 27 months in oak.” The other is F.A.I.L., a Mexican-style lager that was aged in oak with spontaneous fermentation.
