The Bier Stein (Eugene) is hosting a book signing and tasting for homebrewer Denny Conn and his new book, Experimental Homebrewing, tonight from 6 to 8pm: “Ever wondered how brewers infuse some of those interesting ingredients? Local beer educator and newly minted author Denny Conn will be doing a reading from the book Experimental Homebrewing, co-authored by Conn and California homebrew-star Drew Beechum. If you have burning questions, or a burning sensation in your mouth after drinking a beer, Denny can probably solve the mystery. He’ll have the book for sale– a great gift idea (for yourself or a friend, of course). Reading and Q&A will be at the Back Bar, tasting to follow.”

Tonight! Portland beer writer Pete Dunlop (author of the excellent Beervana Buzz blog) is going to be at McNally’s Taproom in Hillsboro to host a book talk for his book, Portland Beer (and he will be selling copies, of course). “The program begins at 7 p.m. and I plan to speak for 30-40 minutes, backed by a slide show with photos and talking points. The theme? How Portland became the leading craft beer city in the world. After that, I’ll open it up to questions and, finally, anyone who wants to purchase a signed copy of my book can do so.” I cannot recommend this book highly enough for anyone interested in history and Portland’s beer scene, and Pete knows his stuff. 7pm, make sure to get over there!
Cascade Brewing (Portland): Tonight’s Tap It Tuesday event at their Barrel House at 6pm is featuring “Live” Napoleon Cherry: “This NW style sour ale is a blend of Blond and Weizen beers aged in a wine barrel for 15 months with white Napoleon cherries. This single-barrel release features a bright acidity with fresh white and maraschino cherry flavors. 7.7% | $8 glass | $3 taster.”
And tomorrow (Wednesday) it looks like Cascade will have a great lineup of beers on tap (here and here): “The Vine is a blend of sour Wheat and Blond ales aged in oak wine barrels with freshly pressed white wine grape must. The limited vertical release [2011, 2012, 2013] will be available only at the Barrel House starting tomorrow. Flight of all three vintages in 2 oz tasters is $9.” And: “Excited to announce the tapping of a single keg of 2012 Cherry Bourbonic Plague at the Barrel House this Wednesday. A variation on our Bourbonic Plague blend, Cherry Bourbonic consists of Spiced Double Porters aged in Bourbon barrels for up to two years with dates and cherries. 12.7%. This will be available in 4 oz pours while they last!”
