Oregon BeerHappy Star Wars Day, May the Fourth be with you! Here’s the news for this Thursday, May 4; look for a Star Wars-themed beer to along with it. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.

The Cinco de Micro Brewfest starts today in Salem, running from 4 to 10pm today and tomorrow (Friday), and from 2 to 10pm on Saturday. “The sixth annual Cinco de Micro Brewfest is located in the heart of downtown Salem. This three-day event features your favorite local and northwest brews including over 65 breweries, local eateries and distilleries, musical entertainment and the unique opportunity to taste hard to find, spring release brews. Enjoy both indoor and outdoor spaces. All proceeds benefit local youth programs at the Boys & Girls Club of Salem, Marion and Polk Counties.” You can buy tickets online for a $15 day pass or $25 weekend pass (or $20 and $30 at the door). They have a nice brewery lineup so head over there and enjoy.

Pacific City’s Pelican Brewing is celebrating their 21st birthday this year, and starting today (Thursday, May 4) they are putting on draft at all Pelican locations their first brew, Doryman’s Dark Ale. “Doryman’s Dark Ale was adapted from Welch’s prize-winning homebrew recipe and showcases his love of history with one of the earliest beer styles directly attributed to American craft brewers. Doryman’s, which was Pelican’s first Gold medal winner, took the prize at the 1999 Great American Beer Festival in the American Brown Ale category. This rich toasty brew forever holds a special place in Pelican’s heart, no matter the birthday they celebrate. Notes of caramel and toasty malt combine with citrusy hop flavors, floral hop aromas for a dark chocolate character with a clean, crisp finish. Pelican celebrates its auspicious day and the return of Doryman’s this Thursday, May 4, tapping kegs of this special edition dark ale for a toast at 5p. The public is welcome to join in the revelry at any Pelican location—Pacific City, Cannon Beach, Tillamook.” Be there (or at one of them) at 5pm today!

Imperial Bottle Shop (Portland) is celebrating Star Wars day today with their Star Wars Beer Fest Episode IV: A New Hop starting at noon: “Get ready for the 4th Annual Star Wars Beer Fest, celebrated on May the Fourth, International Star Wars Day! Expect viewings of Episodes IV – VI, the yearly costume contest, appearances by the Mandalorian Mercs and Outer Rim Collective costumes clubs (both licensed by LucasFilms), a Sci-Fi art show, and of course an awesome Star Wars themed tap list.” There’s also a costume content, and movies start at 12:30.

Breakside Brewery (Portland) is holding a collaboration dinner with Aviary PDX today starting at 6:30pm: “Join us Thursday, May 4 at 6:30 pm for a special collaborative dinner featuring a menu by Chefs Sarah Pliner of Aviary and Damien LaBeaux of Breakside Brewing! Four courses will be paired with Breakside Brewing beers for $60. Call (503) 287-2400 to make your reservation now!” The menu they posted looks pretty tasty.

The Bier Stein (Eugene) is hosting Portland’s Alameda Brewing for a beer tasting tonight from 5 to 8pm: “Try some samples from one of Portland’s long time breweries! We will tap Klickitat Pale, Alternator ISA, and Pueo Rum Barrel-aged Coconut Brown, and our awesome rep Charlie Brown will be passing out some free samples. We’ll have Klickitat and Yellow Wolf Imperial IPA cans in the cooler too!”

Portland’s Bazi Bierbrasserie is hosting A taste of the Pink Elephant tonight from 5 to 8pm: “Wetten Importers is hosting a tasting of both Delirium Tremens and Deliria for $8 – 5 oz pours of each + complimentary swag while supplies last. It’s your chance to taste both beers side by side. Cheers!”

Migration Brewing (Portland) announced today the signing of a distribution deal with Columbia Brewing, effective this month. Form the press release: “After seven years of self-distributing their craft products, they have an amazing opportunity to build on their loyal customer base and to expand their brand within the Pacific Northwest. The next step in the journey of Migration Brewing will be opening a 20 BBL production facility in the Portland metropolitan area. The goal is to have this location operating and producing beer by early 2018, allowing Migration increase production and further serve its loyal fans and community. More details in the coming months.”

Uptown Market and Block 15 Brewery teamed up today for Star Wars Day: “We’ll be pouring some awesome beers and celebrating one of the greatest movie franchises of all time! Come drink with us and wear your favorite Star Wars gear for discounts and prizes!”

Gigantic Brewing is releasing a new year round Kölsch, Kölschtastic, and today starting at 5pm at the White Owl Social Club is the release party: “Come celebrate the release of our new year-round beer Kölschtastic. We will have 5 Gigantic Beers on Tap + DJs Cherri Rose and Danava playing tunes from the Rock N’ Roll Gods!”
