Oregon Beer News, 05/03/2012

Here’s the beer news from around Oregon for Thursday, May 3. I will be periodically updating this post throughout the day so check back for the latest news. If you have some news you’d like to share, please contact me and I will get it posted.

Actually news might be kind of light since half the state is down at the Craft Brewers Conference in San Diego this week, which lasts through Saturday. The World Beer Cup took place there as well, as part of the CBC kickoff, and I’ve been looking for results to see if any Oregon breweries brought home any medals but nothing appears to be online yet. (Though you know I’ll be posting when they are!)

The Green Dragon (Portland) is holding a meet the brewer tonight featuring Firestone Walker, starting at 5pm. Travis Widdifield of FW will be on hand and Wookey Jack Rye IPA, Union Jack Double IPA, and Pale 31 will all be tapped for the event.

McMenamins Fulton Pub & Brewery (Portland) has a limited-edition beer tasting tonight following a bit of tradtion: Jalapa! “Jalapa has been a Fulton Pub tradition for going on 24 years. The Fulton Pub opened its doors for the first time on Cinco De Mayo 1988. On that day, and every May since, the resident brewer has released this unique beer.  Jalapa is a crisp and refreshing golden ale infused with, you guessed it, jalapeno peppers! The flavor of these popular peppers comes through loud and clear followed by a lingering spiciness and heat.” 4.64% abv, and the tasting begins at 5pm and lasts until the beer is gone—and after that, it’s gone (until next year).

Cascade Brewing (Portland) is giving away a bottle of 2008 Vlad the Imp Aler in conjunction with’s May contest: “The contest this month is a bit different. Instead of a photo contest, we’re going to have a very simple mechanism for entering: just retweet this tweet on Twitter (or simply click here), or like this post on Facebook. This makes it easy for you to enter and helps us grow our Portland beer community a little bit more. Two birds, one stone, right?” This vintage Vlad is 10.3% abv and should be amazing.

Worthy Brewing (Bend): They posted an interesting and cool aerial photo of the Worthy property under construction. Not terribly much to see  yet, except possibly the outline of the foundation. (The photo is looking sound, incidentally.)

GoodLife Brewing (Bend): GoodLife is in Medford today and tomorrow, and tonight from 5 to 7pm they are doing a tasting at Beerworks bottle shop and pub. Stop on by and say hello and try some of their excellent beer!
