Oregon Beer News, 05/02/2017

Here’s the Oregon beer news for Tuesday, the 2nd of May. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often for the latest news. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that posted as well.

Cascade Brewing (Portland) is releasing Kriek 2016 today, going on tap at the Barrel House and Raccoon Lodge as well as being available in bottles (which are also released to distribution). From the press release: “Kriek is a blend of sour red ales aged in oak wine barrels for up to 17 months with Bing and sour pie cherries. The beer features complex flavors of cherries, roast malts, oak and spice, and comes in at 7.4 percent ABV. Kriek 2016 is a tier one offering; Cascade’s three tiers are based on the ingredients used in the beer, the time the beer is aged in the barrel, and the type of barrel used – all of which establish the pricing tier of the project.”

Also going on tap at the Barrel House today is Margarita Sour, along with Tap It Tuesday: “Then, in early celebration of Cinco de Mayo, we’re releasing Margarita Sour on draft, a sour blond ale aged for 20 months in tequila barrels with lime and sea salt. Finally, Tap It Tuesday’s live barrel at 6pm is Shiro Plum, a blend of blond ales aged in new and used oak barrels for up to 16 months with 180 lbs. of locally grown yellow Shiro plums.”

Deschutes Brewery (Bend): Tuesdays are Community Pints days at the Deschutes pubs, both in Bend and in Portland, where $1 of every pint sold goes to benefit a local non-profit organization. Each month they pick a new partner for that month. I haven’t seen who this month’s recipients are yet, but make sure to swing by either of the pubs and help out with a pint or three!

Ninkasi Brewing (Eugene) has their Pints for a Cause today benefiting the Springfield Education Foundation all day long: “Join us on Tuesday, May 2 from 12-9pm for Ninkasi Brewing’s Pints for a Cause to help support teachers with the tools they need to do this important work. In preparation for National Teacher Appreciation Week, $1 from every pint sold at Ninkasi’s Tasting Room (272 Van Buren St, Eugene) will be donated to Springfield Education Foundation. Share this post, grab a friend, enjoy the folk-fueled fungrass sounds from Gumbo Grove and join us in celebrating all the amazing teachers in Springfield Public Schools.”

Portland’s Zoiglhaus Brewing is also hosting a fundraiser at The BeerMongers, for Zenger Farm: “This Tuesday, May 2nd, The BeerMongers will be donating a generous portion of their day’s sales to Zenger Farm as part of their Spring for Zenger 2017 week of fundraising! We’ll also have beer and the brewmaster from Zoiglhaus Brewing Company in the bar to talk about their delicious German-inspired ales and lagers and raffle off some sweet swag. PLUS there will be a full-on cribbage tournament beginning at 6:00 with prizes for big winners! It’s sure to be a fun night for a great cause!!”

Baerlic Brewing (Portland) has a new beer release being tapped today: Watch the Birdie Gooseberry Gose. “To celebrate Spring, we brewed up our house gose recipe and added 80lbs of Gooseberry puree to the conditioning tank. Gooseberries add a nice level of tartness with notes of muscat grape and strawberry. A touch of salt adds a snap of quenching drinkability!” It starts at 4pm.

Stickmen Brewing (Lake Oswego) posted some beer news today, including news of a bottled beer: “Qüichrbichñ, our occasional double IPA is not only back on draft but is also now available in 22oz bottles for a limited time. It joins F-Bomb, Emilia, and Bouquet de Sureau currenly in bottles. Today we released a new sour called Tangerine Tickler. A punchy kettle soured wheat beer brewed with tangerine peel and finished with Pacifica and Mandarina Bavaria hops. Find it at both locations. ABV: 5.4 IBU: 15 SRM: 4”
