Oregon Beer, COBW SMaSH FestHappy Memorial Day weekend! Who’s ready for a long weekend to kick off summer? Here’s the roundup of news and events in Oregon beer to help you plan out the holiday; as usual I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with news as I find it, so check back in from time to time. And if you have news to share, please let me know!

Central Oregon Beer Week wraps up this weekend, with the signature SMaSH Fest taking place at McMenamins Old St. Francis School on Saturday the 26th. SMaSH Fest — for “Single Malt and Single Hop” — features all SMaSH beers (except, apparently, for Oblivion Brewing, listing three hops) and many of the participating breweries brewed one special for this fest. It takes place all day starting at 11am, and costs $25 which includes admission, ten 4-ounce tasters and the commemorative pint glass. The full list of breweries and beers is listed on the page.

Bend’s Immersion Brewing is celebrating its second anniversary as part of Beer Week! The brewery is throwing a two-day party Friday and Saturday: “Come celebrate with us! We are throwing our 2nd anniversary party on May 25 and 26, kicking off with Same Coin at 7pm and Company Grand playing from 8-10pm on Friday night. Saturday we will have live local music all day. Beer garden, bounce houses, beer specials and more. SUMMER STARTS NOW!” Congrats on two years, and to more to come!

Here’s the roundup of the rest of the COBW events for this weekend:

Friday, May 25

Bine Valley Brewing (Salem): The brewery is hosting the kick off party for its Summer Series of beers Friday starting at 4pm: “Introducing the first in our summer series, IPH Only IPA. Golden naked oats give this juicy beer a soft mouth feel while the blend of Mosaic, BRU-1, and Ekuanot hops bring a balanced bitterness. Paired with notes of orange, lime, papaya and a subtle spiciness this beer is one you won’t want to miss! Each month through August we will be brewing up a special summer beer just for you! Stay tuned and, as always, BE THE BINE.”

Coin Toss Brewing (Oregon City) is hosting the Friday release party for its collaboration beer with Bent Shovel Brewing, Toss This Job and Shovel Wit: “Join us for the release of “Toss This Job and Shovel Wit” which celebrates the departure from the corporate world for Coin Toss founder Tim Hohl & Bent Shovel Brewing’s Rick Strauss. Both left their day jobs earlier this year to become full time brewery owners & have been plotting a collaboration ever since. The result is a delicious Belgian Wit is brewed with generous amounts of coriander, orange peel & blood orange. Perfect for celebrating the start of summer!”

The Bier Stein (Eugene) is raffling off a Sierra Nevada Brewing camping set from 5 to 8pm: “On Friday, May 25th we are raffling off a complete Sierra Nevada camping set up! The camping package includes a tent, hammock, backpack, 2 camp chairs, and a cooler! Tickets are available now and come with the purchase of any Sierra Nevada beer, but you can also purchase them for $1/ea or $5/8 tickets. All proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the Oregon Dog Rescue! The final drawing will take place at 8:00pm and you must be present to win.”

Portland’s Hopworks Urban Brewery is releasing its latest beer, Totally Chill Hazy IPA, Friday from 5 to 8pm: “Hey, It’s all good. Totally Chill is a hazy IPA with mind-blowing, pineapple and ripe mango hop flavor from our Azacca, Mosaic, and El Dorado hops. The beer was brewed with generous amounts of oats, wheat and barley for a super cloudy look and fluffy mouthfeel. Come taste our newest seasonal beer! It’s available on draft or you can take home one of our 12oz. 6-packs to-go at all 3 pub locations. We will start pouring at 5pm.”
