Oregon Beer, The Ale ApothecaryHere is the Oregon beer news for this Thursday, May 23, rounding up the various news and happenings from around the state. As always I’ll be updating this post throughout the day with the latest news as I find it, so check back often. And if you have news to share, please feel free to contact me anytime.

Bend’s The Ale Apothecary will be in Portland tonight at Belmont Station, releasing the first of the brewery’s new 375ml sized bottles: “Yes, the time has come for great things in small packages: Ale Apothecary in 375ml bottles and you’ll find ‘em here first! Paul and Staci Arney themselves will be on-site celebrating this exciting release with us! Bottles that will be available in 375s include the following: La Tache, Sahalie, El Cuatro, Ralph, Sahati, Carpe Diem Mañana, Sauvie (NEW! Made with Sauvie Island hops), and Field Spirits (NEW! Dark rye sour). We will also be pouring Sauvie, Field Spirits, Ralph, and Sahati! This is going to be a very special evening and we are excited to spend it with you!” The release party runs from 5 to 8pm.

McMemanmins 23rd Avenue Bottle Shop (Portland) is hosting a special limited-edition tasting of A Beer Called Death tonight from 6 to 8pm, with brewer Jen Kent from the Thompson Brewery in attendance: “Death is playing to the Crystal on Sunday May 26th and to celebrate Jenn Kent brewed a batch of her amazing Beer Called Death. So come on by, have a taste, fill up a Crowler, and grab a limited edition tasting stamp while you are at it. Cheers! About the beer: There’s an interesting coalition between beer and people when collaborating on a recipe. You’re met with a subject and the spark of an idea. The mind starts running with an inspiration fueled fire that leads you to question how you can manifest this in a way that allows both the beer and the subject to meet. A Beer Called Death is the answer. Don’t let the name deter you. Punk fans will know instantly what the name represents. It’s Detroit in the mid-seventies. It’s punk before punk existed, stashed away in attics, only to be discovered some 30 years later. In honor of the band called Death, we present you with an Imperial Coffee Stout. A mild sweetness and an alcohol warmth lay over soft bitter notes of coffee and chocolate. The blend creates a beer worthy of time, but thankfully, it’s here for you to enjoy, here and now.”
