Oregon Beer, McMenamins EdgefieldI hope your Thursday is going well with a beer at the end of the tunnel this week! Here’s the Oregon beer news for this May 10; as usual I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the rest of the day, so check back occasionally for updates.

McMenamins Edgefield (Troutdale) is hosting its limited-edition beer tasting tonight from 5 to 8pm, featuring Top Sider ESB: “Do you like sailing on the seven seas, traveling with the wind at your back, as you squint sternly towards the horizon at full nautical speed? The Top Sider ESB will help you along your mythical conquest. Full-bodied with a deep copper appearance, it offers a fine balance between the floral notes of the hops and the sweet biscuity malt flavors.”

Ninkasi Brewing (Eugene): The brewery’s Pints for a Cause is taking place today, raising funds for Planned Parenthood of SW Oregon: “From noon to 10 PM on Thursday May 10th, $1 for every pint will be donated to Planned Parenthood of Southwestern Oregon! Come by, grab a beer, and say hi! We will be tabling from 5 to 9 PM. Are kids allowed in the tasting room or on the patio? You bet. Minors are allowed at the Ninkasi Tasting Room when accompanied by an adult and for the purpose of consuming food. Outside food is permitted on our patio and inside the tasting room.”

Portland’s Imperial Bottle Shop is hosting Stickmen Brewing out of Lake Oswego for a can release party of Stickmen beers starting at 6pm: “Come join us as we celebrate two new can releases from Stickmen Brewing Company! The two new cans include: a new hazy IPA called Cloudy with a Chance of Citra Hazy IPA which is being canned earlier that day!!! And Kissed by Melons sour ale, which won a Gold Medal at the 2016 Oregon Beer Awards. ” And of course Imperial will have Stickmen beer on draft as well.

Portland Beer Week announced its return for 2018, kicking off in a month, with tickets for events available now. “The 8th annual 2018 Portland Beer Week presented by PSU’s The Business of Craft Beer program and Loyal Legion beer hall returns this June 7-17th as an 11-day celebration of craft beer in the greatest beer city on earth. Today, Portland Beer Week organizers announce a number of marquee events with tickets on sale now for the Kickoff Party at the Oregon Zoo, Seminar Series and popular returning annual events like the Portland Beer and Cheese Festival and closing event SNACKDOWN!” The Oregon Zoo kickoff party should be interesting!

On Jay Brooks’ daily roundup of beer events, one of today’s items is “Rogue Ales new brewery in Newport opened (1989)”  — a good reminder that Rogue Ales got its start (and first location) in Ashland, before moving to Newport entirely after a flood destroyed the original brewery.

And, Rogue has a new beer out for spring, announced this week: 10 Hop IPA. From the release: “10 Hop IPA is an imperial IPA brewed with Keven and Adair hops, which are new Rogue Farms crops. These hops, in addition to Rogue Farms Liberty, Newport, Revolution, Independent, Freedom, Rebel, Yaquina and Alluvial hops, give 10 Hop its tropical aromatics and notes of pine. Growing hops gives Rogue complete quality control, but more importantly, the ability to brew beers that best exemplify Oregon terroir. 10 Hop IPA is available nationally in 22 ounce bottles and on draft.” Yes, all ten hops are from Rogue Farms in Independence.

16 Tons in Eugene is hosting McMinnville’s Allegory Brewing for a tap takeover tonight starting at 6pm: “Thursday May 10th at 6pm join us for a killer tap takeover with the gang from Allegory Brewing!! We’ll have six or seven of their beers on tap including a couple Hoppy Hazy IPAs.” View the event page for the full planned taplist.

The Civic Taproom (Portland) is hosting a tap takeover tonight with Level Beer, from 6 to 9pm: “Level Beer is in the house May 10th at 6pm for a tap takeover! Join us to drink some delicious beer, talk to brewery representatives, and enter for chances to win swag.”
