Oregon BeerHappy Hump Day! Here’s the Oregon beer news for the penultimate day of April. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news, so check back often for updates. If you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.

Huge news from Pacific City’s Pelican Pub & Brewery dropped last night: they will be opening a new brewpub up the coast, in Cannon Beach! From the release: “The Pelican Brewing Company is excited to announce they’ll be opening a new pub and brewery in Cannon Beach, Oregon. This new brewpub will be located at 1371 South Hemlock street in the heart of Cannon Beach. A short walk from the beach and Oregon’s other Haystack Rock, the new Pelican will include a small brewhouse as well as a restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. Construction is slated to begin this fall and is expected to be open by spring 2016.”

McMenamins Ringler’s Pub at the Crystal Ballroom (Portland) has a special beer tasting today from 5 to 9pm, featuring Caesar’s Retreat (Whiskey Barrel-Aged Old British Braggot) (that’s a mouthfull!): “Our Boudicca’s Revenge braggot aged in a Hogshead Whiskey barrel for six weeks, where it picked up strong notes of vanilla and caramel. It features a smooth malt body that balances out flavors from Scottish heather and raw Oregon blackberry honey. Deceptively easy to drink, it creeps up on you like a band of Iceni Bretons flanking your legion. Something like that.” It’s a sneaky 9.8% abv so be warned!

It’s a McMenamins day as several other locations are doing tastings as well. At their Portland pub The Ram’s Head they have a meet the brewer and special beer tasting starting at 5pm, featuring Jodi’s Berrylicious Ale: “We don’t think you’re ready for this berry. Blackberries and lemon zest bedeck this delicious springtime ale with tasty goodness. A little tart, a little sweet, and all kinds of awesome. 84 pounds of blackberry puree went straight into the fermenter for this batch to make sure you get that fruity goodness while you wait for summer to get here. This is a limited release so get it while you can!”

And over at Hillsboro’s Cornelius Pass Roadhouse, this month’s Roadhouse Beer Tasting is featuring Dos Dosed, part of their annual homebrew competition: “Come try five different incarnations of our Red Ryder at our second annual homebrewer competition. Each recipe for these creatively “dosed” kegs will come from the minds of local homebrewing groups with a prize going to the club behind the best-selling pint. This year’s homebrew club participants: Boarfish (Hillsboro); Brew Brothers Collective (Hillsboro); PDX Brewers Club (Portland Metro); Barley’s Angels (McMinnville Chapter).” Love this idea! The tasting starts at 6pm and lasts until the beer is gone.

PFriem Family Brewers (Hood River) will be in Corvallis tonight on their bottle release rollout, pouring at Les Caves Bier & Kitchen (next door to Block 15) from 5 to 8pm: “Our kitchen will be crafting some small plates and artisan board items to pair with these exceptional initial bottle offerings.” Bottles pouring will include IPA, Pilsner, Blonde IPA, Belgian Strong Dark, Saison and Flanders Blonde.

Portland’s Burnside Brewing is teaming up with Reverend Nat’s Hard Cider for a tap takeover at Hillsboro’s Three Mugs Brewing today from 3 to 8pm: “Both Burnside Brewing & Reverend Nat’s Hard Cider will be swooping in and taking over our guest taps this day. Come enjoy tasty beers and ciders. We’ll post the list of offerings as we get closer to the day.” (Three Mugs, as a nano, must not have much or any of their own beer on tap currently?)

And Burnside is releasing a new bottle series called “Elemental Scale,” small-batch, very-limited series beers that will be released quarterly, with the intent of being “an exploration into pushing the boundaries of creativity.” The first bottling is Blueberry Mint Saison, a Farmhouse ale brewed with blueberries, fresh mint and local honey that is 6.9% abv. The description: “Burnside’s Blueberry Mint Saison is an intensely aromatic beer that pays proud homage to its rustic roots. This Ale is brewed with a blend of Pilsner, Vienna, and CaraPils malts, hopped with EKG’s, then awakened with blueberries, local honey, and a cold side infusion of mint.” I hope to score a bottle of this sometime!

Wild Ride Brewing (Redmond) has a new beer released today: “Our latest beer release is happening today! Indy Session IPA is now on tap in our Tap Room, and will be on special all day! Look for it to be distributed soon as well!”
