Oregon Beer News, 04/13/2016

Oregon BeerToday, April 13, is Thomas Jefferson’s birthday, one of our Founding Fathers who was most definitely a beer drinker. Celebrate the day with a toast to our third President and author of the Declaration of Independence! Here’s the new as well; as usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news, so check back often for updates. If you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.

The Bier Stein (Eugene) is teaming up with Hopworks Urban Brewery for a beer dinner tonight starting at 6pm: “Mark your calendars for another great beer dinner! Tickets are $55 *including gratuity and beer*, be sure to buy them in advance as these always sell out. Check out the killer menu, this time with a bit of an Asian theme.” It’s a six-course meal paired with HUB beer so check with the Stein for ticket availability if you’re interested.

Belmont Station (Portland) is hosting a beer tasting with St. Killian Imports tonight from 5 to 7pm: “Enjoy a sampling of a wide array of great imported beers from this world-class importer. St. Killian’s Portland rep will be sampling Crabbie’s Alcoholic Ginger Beer (both Original and Raspberry), Bitburger, Wells Banana Bread Ale, and Belhaven Scottish Ale. Come taste a variety of the wide spectrum from St. Killian!”

Saraveza (Portland): They still have leftovers from their recent Farmhouse and Wild Ale Fest, and tonight from 6 to 9pm you still have a chance to get your hands on some in their leftovers sale: “We got some special treats from Apothecary, Jester King, Breakside, Propolis, and Blackberry Farms to name a few! We will be putting them out for sale on this day and will have them until they are gone! We’ll even be pulling a few special things from our cellar to sell along with them, because, why not!? This will also be your last chance to snag any bottles of “The Croze” from the Commons! Any leftover bottles will be stashed downstairs to be saved for future festivals and cellar sales! So if you want to get a bottle for $10 and avoid having to pay us to store it for you, Wednesday the 13th is your chance!”

McMenamins Boon’s Treasury (Salem) has their Taste at the Treasury beer tasting today from 3 to 5pm, featuring Hazel Basil: “[Thompson House brewer Jen Kent] has taken one of our favorite summertime ales and added a flavorful twist. Purple Haze, in all of her boysenberry glory, is now married to fresh basil to make for a bountiful flavor palate. A thirst quenching beer to bring in our herbacious Spring season!”

Bend’s Platypus Pub tonight is hosting Portland’s Base Camp Brewing for a beer tasting from 6 to 8pm: “Tim Clark from Base Camp Brewing will be here Wednesday night to sample out and discuss their beers. We will have Ultra Gnar Gnar and the brand new Nomadic Double IPA on draft and for samples. The Nomadic is a “hoppy, hybrid ale that is the culmination of a trek that begins in England with its IPA backbone, on to Belgium with a tropical, funky, Brettanomyces fermentation, through the blood orange groves of California for some mellow citrus tang, and ends here in the PNW with an imperial-strength dose of four Oregon-grown hop varietals.” Tim will be sampling these plus a few others that he brings along with him.”

The Green Dragon (Portland): Tonight’s Green Dragon Brew Crew release is featuring a beer with a mouthful of a name: Unfug Machen & Naturtrüber Unfug Machen. “The Green Dragon Brew Crew tests our German skills this week with the release of Unfug Machen & Naturtrüber Unfug Machen. These are light-colored lagers, one filtered (Unfug Machen) and one is unfiltered (Naturtrüber Unfug Machen). ABV: 6.25%, IBU: 20” It starts at 5pm.

Deschutes Brewery (Bend): The Portland Pub has a new beer on tap celebrating the upcoming new Roanoke, Virginia brewery Deschutes will be building: “Help us celebrate our newly announced brewery in Roanoke with this saison, dry-hopped with El Dorado hops. A traditional saison yeast gives this beer notes of banana, bubblegum, clove and a hint of melon. Virginia, here we come!”

Ground Breaker Brewing (Portland) has new beers of their own: “We have new Taproom Exclusives! The Kombrewcha is a blend of our IPA No. 5 and our housemade kombucha. The Cancellation Cranberry Ale is a pale ale aged with milk thistle, burdock root, roasted dandelion root, goji berries, lemons, and cranberries. Come and get it!”

As does Portland’s Alameda Brewing: “It’s BACK! Yellow Wolves of Thailand has made its long-anticipated return. We took our award-winning Yellow Wolf IIPA and added fresh ginger, Thai basil, flaked coconut, and mango.”
