Oregon Beer News, 04/13/2012

Oregon BeerHappy Friday the 13th! Here’s the Oregon beer news for today and the weekend (late edition!); I’ll likely be updating this post a bit with any new news I come across (even though I got a late start today), so if you have something you’d like to share please let me know and I can get it updated.

Ninkasi Brewing (Eugene) has got their (limited) new bottles of Helles Belles debuting this weekend: first hitting the McDonald Theater in Eugene tonight, and then at Portland’s Wonder Ballroom tomorrow night (Saturday)—the hook is that the band Hell’s Belles will be playing live at both locations so Ninkasi is releasing Helles Belles (the beer) in conjunction. (Great idea!) I’m not sure what tonight’s Eugene show costs (they were saying you could bring 3 bottle caps to the Brewery before today for free VIP passes), but the Portland show tomorrow night is free and starts at 7pm.

Three Creeks Brewing (Sisters): This weekend starting today (through Sunday the 15th) is “IPAPRIL” at the Three Creeks: “If you are a Hop-Head, Mark your calendars for April 13-15 and get down to the pub. We’re gathering 10 great Oregon IPA’s and will have all of them on tap while supplies last. We’ll tap all 10 at 5 p.m. Friday the 13th and pour em till they are gone.” There will be pints as well as samplers available (build your own IPA flight?) but no growlers. Hopheads should definitely find their way to Sisters this weekend!

Pints Brewing (Portland): Today is Pints’ grand opening! From the New School: “Head Brewer Zach Beckwith will have all 4 of the core year-round beers available on tap by then (Tavern Ale, RedBrick Rye, Steel Bridge Stout and IPA), plus a new spring seasonal, a malty NW Red Ale. Also on tap will be the Lompoc/Pints collaboration beer, Legalize Wit, that was brewed alongside Lompoc’s Dave Fleming for the upcoming Portland Cheers To Belgian Beers Festival.” And, from Pints’s page: “PINTS Sidewalk Grill starts serving Burgers, Beer and Brats at noon and continues all afternoon with drink and food specials. PINTS craft-ales $3/pint. Suggest a name for our NW Red Ale and enjoy art by Sam Roloff. Meet Zach, our fearless Head Brewer! Live music begins at 7:00 – no cover, 21+.” It’s a good day to check out Portland’s latest craft brewery!

Oakshire Brewing (Eugene) is debuting this year’s popular Line Dry Rye at Bottles in Portland tonight, from 7 to 10pm: Brewmaster Matt Van Wyk will be on hand pouring beer and handing out swag, and there will be some Oakshire single batch beers on tap as well!

Hopworks Urban Brewing (Portland) is releasing a new Organic Belgian-style Abbey Ale that will be debuting during Portland’s Cheers to Belgian Beers on April 21st; this is part of a new larger series of Belgian-style seasonal beers. “Made with this year’s PCTBB yeast, Abbey is made with five different organic malts and organic dark brown sugar, resulting in a complex multi-layered aroma.  The flavor is equally rich with a caramel malty sweet, fruity flavor finished with effervescent carbonation and a smooth, warming alcohol finish.” It’s 6.5% abv and will be available from May through June.

Lompoc Brewing (Portland): Helles-style lagers must be in right now, because in addition to Ninkasi’s Helles Belles mentioned above, Lompoc has a new light lager out as well, Heaven’s Helles, which they released yesterday at the Sidebar, a “golden, straw-colored German style pale lager that features a floral aroma and a clean, crisp finish (5.3% ABV).” Crisp light lagers for spring, gotta love that!
