McMenamins Edgefield (Troutdale) has a limited-edition beer tasting today starting at 5pm, featuring Mayday Maibock: “To help us in the transition from the bleak, wet cold of Winter in to the bleak, wet warmth of the next season, we brewers at Edgefield have followed the ancient Bavarian tradition of the Spring maibock. This maibock is a copper-colored lager with a rich, malty body and flavors of caramel, toffee, and grain. The malt flavor, however, is tempered by the crisp, smooth fermentation profile imparted by a style-fitting German lager yeast that rounds off any rough edges and molds Mayday Maibock in to a truly refined beer that lends itself to multiple servings.” It’s 6.71% abv and sounds tasty to me. Be sure to try it when you can, because when it’s gone, it’s gone.
The Green Dragon (Portland): They are hosting Bend’s Silver Moon Brewing tonight for a meet the brewer and tasting, starting at 5pm (the meet the brewer portion starts at 6). Brewer Brett Thomas will be on hand to talk about some of the great beers he’s been cranking out lately—I don’t know what will specifically be pouring, but he’s got some terrific lagers to offer up so hopefully you’ll get a taste of those as well as some other goodies.
John Harris, former Full Sail (and Deschutes) brewer, has finally secured a location for his yet-to-be-named brewpub venture he announced last year. The new brewery will be located at 825 N. Cook Street in Portland, and Harris announced on his Facebook page: “After 10 months of searching I have found a place for my Brewery. 825 Cook st in Portland right off Mississippi st. A great location You are welcome to join me on 4/28 from 2-4 where I will host a open house to see the place, view the plans, I will have some T-shirts and announce the name of the brewery.” This will be a “dry open house” (no beer yet) but I predict many people will still show up.
