We’re just about a week away from the Craft Brewers Conference starting up in Portland, and there are more events being lined up than you can shake a stick at—in fact, while I will likely be writing about a number of them, I doubt there is any way I can reasonably cover all of them. Suffice to say it’s going to be the biggest week in beer Portland (and Oregon) has seen in some time, so keep a close watch on the CBC’s “week events” page in addition to this space. And yes, I’ll be in Portland next week covering the CBC, so the daily beer news posts will be on hiatus for the week—but there will be plenty of CBC coverage happening here on the blog and on social media.
PFriem Family Brewers (Hood River): They are hitting Portland this week with their bottle release parties celebrated their just-launched bottled beers (which they kicked off just last week). They will be at Belmont Station on Wednesday the 8th, Saraveza on Thursday the 9th, and The BeerMongers on Saturday the 11th. If you haven’t yet had a chance to check out their bottles make sure to hit up one of these events this week.
Bailey’s Taproom (Portland) are now touting “Crowlers”—32-ounce “can growlers” which are basically quart-sized cans that they can fill and seal for off-premise sales. They are officially launching this Wednesday: “Join us on Wednesday, April 8th as we celebrate the launch of our Crowler sales by offering our first freshly Crowled batch of Barley Brown’s Pallet Jack. Starting at noon, these special cans will be sold for a special event price of only $5.” I’ve seen Crowlers in the wild a bit already, it’s a cool idea but their one-time use does differentiate them from regular reusable growlers. Head over to Bailey’s and see what you think this week.
More CBC collaboration beers: Bend’s Crux Fermentation Project teamed up with Colorado’s Crooked Stave to brew a Wild Sour Golden Ale. It’s Crux’s first collaboration beer, and the release party will be taking place at Portland’s The Hop & Vine next Thursday, April 16.
Breakside Brewery (Portland): Their India Golden Ale is back and they are rolling out release parties for it this week: “Our double IPA “Breakside India Golden Ale” is back and we are throwing a PDX release party 4/8 at Imperial Bottle Shop & Taproom @ 7pm and a Eugene release party 4/9 at The Bier Stein @5pm”
Brannon’s Pub & Brewery (Beaverton): They have a tapping party for their Drachenflieger Pilsner next Tuesday, April 14, right during CBC (good timing). “Our rendition of an American Pilsner shares some similarities with its European counterparts. While maintaining a classically crisp and refreshing mouth feel, this Pilsner has been lightly hopped to accentuate its delicate malt backbone. Our Brewmaster Devin Benware will be on hand during this tapping party to answer any questions that you may have and, if you like, Devin would be happy to give you a tour of the brewery!” It runs from 7 to 9pm.
