Oregon Beer News, 04/04/2016

Oregon BeerHappy Monday! Here’s the Oregon beer news for this first Monday of April, the fourth. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news as I find it, so check back often. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that posted as well.

Portland’s Nano Beer Fest is taking place this weekend, on Saturday and Sunday the 9th and 10th, at John’s Marketplace. “The 2016 Nano Beer Fest will feature over 50 beers, ciders, braggot and meads from locally sourced Northwest Nano Breweries.” There will be a raffle for various goodies that benefits the Oregon Humane Society and a scheduled lineup of meet the brewers both days. Cost is $20 which nets you the glass plus 10 tasting tokens—you know the drill, $1 per token and so on. This will be a great showcase of the region’s smallest breweries, worth checking out if you’re in town this weekend.

Silver Moon Brewing (Bend): This Tuesday the 5th, they are hosting the release party for a special Skyliners IPA beer they brewed in conjunction with the Deschutes Historical Society, to celebrate Central Oregon’s Nordic ski history: “Silver Moon will donate $1 per pint of Skyliners IPA on tap to the museum through the month of April. In addition, a special Skyliners’ IPA Bottle Launch party will be at Silver Moon Brew Pub, 24 NW Greenwood Avenue in Bend, Tuesday, April 5 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. to introduce the 22 oz. Skyliners IPA (Hop Nob). DHM is asking for a $10 donation per bottle or $110 per case. The launch party will also feature vintage ski photos and rare footage of ski jumping off Pilot Butte in 1965. The Skyliners IPA and label is a tribute to the men and women of Bend’s first ski/mountaineering club. Founded in 1927, Skyliners introduced outdoor recreation to Central Oregon.” You can’t go wrong with beer and history!

Portland’s Brewvana Brewery Tours company is celebrating their 5th anniversary this Wednesday the 6th with a party hosted by Ecliptic Brewing from 5 to 9pm: “Join us for a night filled with beer, close friends & cool people, beer snacks and more at Ecliptic Brewery! Each ticket includes entry to the event, a commemorative glass filled with beer (graciously provided by our dear friends at Glass Tech), beer snacks, and a live performance by local out-of-this-world band Space Shark. KIND Bars will also be at the party as well doing a special beer and bar pairing!” Tickets in advance are $10, or are $12 at the door.

Lompoc Brewing (Portland): This Wednesday the 6th they are hosting their Hip Hop IPA night at the Lompoc Tavern starting at 4pm. The theme of the night, as you probably guess, is Hip Hop, and they have five IPAs all fitting this theme: World Class Wreckin Brew, Mama Said Hop You Out, Hotel Motel Holiday Inn, MCA IPA, and Hopster’s Paradise. “All five beers will be available on a taster tray or individually by the pint. Lompoc will also have a Gin & Juice cocktail special featuring Aria Portland Dry Gin.” Because of course!

Crux Fermentation Project (Bend): Tonight’s BEER’ducation series event is an IPA showdown—Cast Out IPA vs. Vicky’s Got a Secret Experimental IPA. They are both brewed with Australian hops, so this offers a chance to explore the similarities and difference in the hops (Cast Out uses Galaxy hops, while Vicky’s is similar but unnamed right now I think). It runs from 4 to 9pm tonight.

Bend’s Boneyard Brewing will be at Blitz Ladd in Portland tonight for the release of their Hop-a-Wheelie from 5 to 8pm: “Hop A Wheelie release party with discount prices and give a ways! Come on down and watch the NCAA championship in style.”

Portland’s Humble Brewing is closing after five years as a commercial nanobrewery. Brewpublic has details: “After a 5-year run Chad Freitag and Scott Davis of Humble Brewing have decided to step down from its professional brewing and go back to the ranks of home brewing. Founded in 2011 as a nano brewery, Humble never gained the traction or the desire to move out of its 1.5-barrel size to compete on a larger scale. Now 177 batches in, Humble Brewing will be features at this weekend’s Nano Beer Fest on April 9-10, and at Bridgetown Beerhouse on April 15.” The event page for their event on the 15th is here.
