Oregon Beer News, 03/24/2016

Oregon BeerHere is the Oregon beer news for Thursday, March 24. Today is a little unusual, I’ll be largely away from the keyboard for the latter half of it, so updates may not be frequent. But as usual, I’ll do my best to periodically update this post today, so check back for any new items. If you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that posted as well when I can.

Crux Fermentation Project (Bend) has introduced an addition to their patio with the onset of spring, in anticipation of the warmer weather and how generally very busy they get starting this time of year—a used shipping container, outfitted with 20 taps to convert it into an outdoor pouring station. Today starting at 4pm they are holding an Open “Container” Celebration to kick it off, with live music, a chance to “spin the Crux wheel” to win prizes and swag, and more.

The Bier Stein (Eugene): Tonight from 6 to 8pm they are pouring a special Sour Beer Flight from Almanac Brewing: “San Francisco’s Almanac Beer Co. has taken over nearly an entire shelf in our cooler with its wide variety of sour beers. Join us for a flight on tap.” They’ll have four sour beers plus an IPA and Imperial Stout from Almanac on tap.

The Green Dragon (Portland): Today’s meet the brewer event starting at 5pm is featuring Kevin Hanney of Portland’s Migration Brewing: “In the land where the IPA was reborn, Migration Brewing stands out because of their attention to grains. We talking beers with complex malty backbones, balanced with just enough hops to satisfy the most diehard of hop heads. Brewer Kevin Hanney joins us at the Green Dragon this Thursday with four of Migration’s best brews on tap. Join us for a pint and find out why malt matters when it comes to great craft beer.”

Ecliptic Brewing (Portland): Their next Seasonal Series beer is out and on its way to distributors: Zenith Grapefruit Gose. “Zenith Grapefruit Gose (pronounced “Gose-uh”), is a traditional German-style sour ale with a touch of coriander and salt. Our interpretation of this style includes grapefruit for a refreshing beer, perfect for springtime when the sun re-emerges above our celestial sphere.” Yum—one I will definitely be trying!

Fort George Brewery (Astoria) has new beers on tap that sounds intriguing all around: “New menus in the Lovell Taproom and new beer on tap. Hellcat hot pepper Tripel, Dealer’s Choice IPA, and this Beta IPA 10.1 – the first test batch for this year’s 3-Way IPA. Or grab a pint of Vortex on cask with Citra hops.”
