Oregon Beer News, 03/22/2016

Oregon BeerHere’s the news in beer from around Oregon for Tuesday, the 22nd of March. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often for the latest news. If you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.

Full Sail Brewing (Hood River): Right on the heels of announcing their new branding and packaging, Full Sail has two brand-new beers coming out: Hop Pursuit IPA and Blood Orange Wheat Ale. From the release: “Brewers shoot a wonderfully hoppy surplus of Cascade, Mosaic, Equinox, and Simcoe into the fermenter using the Hop Shooter, dry hopping the beer and enhancing the aroma of pineapple and late hop flavors. Piney and mango notes follow with a mid-palate hint of honey. Balanced by a clean, caramel malt body, Hop Pursuit’s multi-layered hop flavors lead to a crisp, assertive finish. Blood Orange Wheat Ale joins the illustrious brews in the Full Sail Pub Series, a rotating series that bottles the best of the brewery’s Hood River drafts. Brewed with 2-Row Northwest Pale, malted and unmalted wheat, and a hint of citrus, Blood Orange Wheat Ale has a medium malt body with subtle orange and a crisp wheat finish.” Hop Pursuit is available year round, and Blood Orange Wheat from April through August; look for both on draft and in 12-ounce bottles.

Cascade Brewing (Portland): Tonight’s Tap It Tuesday at the Barrel House at 6pm is featuring Shiro Plum: “our first project to feature yellow Shiro plums, grown right here in SE Portland. This limited blend features sour triples aged in new and used oak barrels for up 16 months with 150 lbs. of Shiro plums. Featuring flavors of fresh plums and tropical fruit with a touch of fresh oak and malt sweetness, this live barrel brings the scents of summer right to your glass!”

Deschutes Brewery (Bend): Tuesdays at their Pubs are their Community Pints Days, where $1 of every pint sold benefits a local charitable organization. In Bend today, the benefit goes to the Latino Community Association, and in Portland, they are benefiting Friends of Trees. Be sure to stop by either pub and enjoy a pint or three!

Alesong Brewing & Blending (Eugene): Though not open yet, Matt Van Wyk’s new brew venture is already working on beers and barrels; their current post today: “The barrel whisperer hard at work this morning filling bourbon barrels with Russian imperial stout. Smells delicious in here!” Can’t wait until this brewery is open and we get to see all the beers Matt and his team have been working on.

Additional big news from Deschutes Brewery today as they officially revealed the location of their upcoming east coast location: Roanoke, Virginia! We’re sure to hear a lot more about this in the coming days, but here’s from the press release today: “The future Roanoke facility has been lovingly dubbed “Brew 4” as it takes its place in line after the original Bend, Oregon public house (Brew 1), the brewery’s production facility in Bend (Brew 2) and the Portland, Oregon public house (Brew 3). Brew 4 will be located at the eastern edge of Roanoke with construction on the site beginning in 2019. Eventually, a little over 100 new jobs will be created for the region, and the new brewery will produce approximately 150,000 barrels to start, with a design to increase capacity as needed. Deschutes expects to start shipping beer from the Roanoke location in about five years.” Congrats!

PFriem Family Brewers (Hood River): New beer on tap today! “Our Spring Pale Ale just hit our Tasting Room taps! Every sip of this beer is full of fresh cut citrus & melon! Accompanied by a soft bready and gentle spicy body, it finishes dry & crisp leaving you wanting oh so much more. Sit back, relax and enjoy this beer while welcoming the warmer weather and all the new growth spring has to offer!”

Cascade Lakes Brewing (Redmond) has a new bottled beer out that I need to find and drink: “New to Cascade Lakes Brewing Co. is a limited release from our seasonal Vault Series- Salted Caramel Porter.” Yes, please!

Defeat River Brewery is a new brewery under development in Reedsport, one I suspect nobody’s heard much about yet, but that’ll change. They have a status posted today with some details (and photos):  “We have been so busy working in the brewery the past 3 weeks that we haven’t had time to post our progress! Today we finished framing our last taproom wall!!! Yesterday we began building our taproom bar, the day before that we were hanging light fixtures AND our kegs finally arrived!!! WHEW, too much to post in one night, we’ll show you some more movement this week!”
