Oregon Beer News, 03/19/2015

Oregon BeerHere’s the news in Oregon brews for Thursday, the 19th of March. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often. If you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that posted as well.

McMenamins Kennedy School (Portland) has a limited-edition beer tasting today starting at 5pm, featuring T-1000 Vienna Lager. Paging Arnold Schwarzenegger. “This beer starts with a moderate malty presence and ends with a smooth, hop bitterness in the finish. A clean lager base makes it a crisp, easy drinker for warm spring days. You’ll be back!” It’s 5.55% abv and I kind of wish it was a bock just to play with that tagline…

Belmont Station (Portland) tonight has Hood River’s Full Sail Brewing in the house for a tasting from 5 to 7pm: “Full Sail has been brewing up great beer since 1987! Their new rep, Heath Heiberg, will be here to pour samples of several of their delicious beers. Reacquaint yourself, or find a new favorite!”

The Bier Stein (Eugene) is hosting Corvallis’ 2 Towns Ciderhouse for the release of 2 Towns’ Cherried Away (sour cherry cider with hibiscus) and some of their Traditions series: “Grab a pint of Cherried Away or Throne of Thorns on tap, and make sure you try Traditions Riverwood and Pommeau samples!” It runs from 5 to 8pm.

PFriem Family Brewers (Hood River): They are officially releasing PFriem beers in bottles in a couple of weeks, launching April 3! “We’ll be rollin’ out bottled beers throughout 2015 – starting with these eight varieties. Our first release will include: IPA, Pilsner, Blonde IPA, Belgian Strong Dark, Belgian Strong Blonde, Saison, and our long-awaited barrel aged beers – Flanders Blonde and Flanders Red!” To support the bottle launch, they’ll also be holding premier events, the first one on April 3 at their pub in Hood River, and then April 8 at Belmont Station in Portland, and May 6 in Seattle. This is a big move for them, and the picture they posted shows some nice-looking packaging. Keep your eyes peeled in a few weeks for those to arrive at your favorite bottleshop.

Breakside Brewery (Portland): Today is the release of their new Guava IRA and to celebrate their doing a tap takeover at the Bridgetown Beerhouse: “We will be pouring Guava IRA as well as the following suds from Breakside: Breakside Safe Word Triple IPA, Breakside IPA, Breaside Lunch Break, and Breakside Euro Trash.” The release and takeover starts at 5pm. The beer itself is 7% abv and is described as: “The resinous and citric notes of Simcoe hops, meld with some big juicy fruit character from Australian Galaxy hops and a rich Guava character from the fruit itself. A light use of caramel malt gives this beer some balancing sweetness to counter the hop bitterness and light acidity.”

Vertigo Brewing (Hillsboro): Yesterday they teamed up with Pikes Peak Brewing to work up a collaboration beer for the Craft Brewers Conference in a couple of weeks: “So today we had the great pleasure of hosting Doug from Pikes Peak Brewing for a collaboration brewing session for both the Craft Brewers Conference and the Cheers to Belgian Beers Festival. Today we brewed a Belgian Table beer. We expect this beer to come in at a quaffable 4% ABV. This should be pouring in the taproom about mid-April.”

Big Horse Brew Pub (Hood River): Yesterday they posted about 3 new beers they have on tap: “The New Strictly a Rude #17-7.5%. Made with a blend of Citra, El Dorado and Cascade hops. Saison Brux-7.0%. This one has been sitting in the tank maturing in some Brett Brux for 6 months now. Super fruity blonde Farmhouse ale. Märzen-O’Fest-4.9%. A traditional German fest bier. Full bodied, with lots of malt character.” I like the variation in this new lineup.

Burnside Brewing (Portland): Today looks to be “Firkin Thursday” at Burnside! “Come try our newest creation the Strawberry Wheat. We’re also serving up a slow braised chicken hindquarter special. It’s deep fried and finished with smoked @beelocal honey. Served with grilled honey butter biscuit, pickled fresnos and bread & butter okra.”
