Oregon BeerHere’s the Oregon beer news for Tuesday, March 19. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news as I find it, so check back often. If you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.

Portland’s Willamette Week newspaper has their annual beer guide hitting the stands today, and being Portland, they’ve gone whole hog (of course!): “Went sent writers out to every brewery within an hour of town, plus a few favorite from around the state. We also hit the best beer bars and bottle shops in town, compiled a comprehensive guide to homebrew suppliers and a bunch of interesting features, including picks from some of the most awesome people in town. It’s 68 glossy pages of great writing about great beer in a great town. And because it’s Willamette Week…… well, see below. We’re celebrating the release and announcing our top 10 beers of the year with a party at Green Dragon [this] Tuesday. The festivities start at 5 pm and the top 10 will be announced at 7 pm. The bar will be tapping kegs of many of the top 10 beers—several extremely rare.” I think this will be a great party, so head on down there if you can.

Belmont Station (Portland) is holding a special tasting and tapping tonight featuring Bend’s 10 Barrel Brewing  from 5 to 8pm: “Taste the full bottled lineup of one of the hottest breweries in the country, including ISA, Apocalypse IPA, S1nist0r, Hop Rye’it, and Rye’m or Treason (Imperial Rye Ale aged in Rye Whiskey Barrels). Special tapping of Tonya Cornett’s Sparkle Party Berliner Weisse and Apricot Crush (the tart lacto Berliner Weisse with Apricots!). We’ll even have a little Woodruff Syrup available for your blending pleasure should you care to sweeten the tartness of the Sparkle Party in the German tradition.”

McMenamins Murray & Allen (Beaverton): They have a limited-edition beer tasting tonight featuring a single hop Mosaic IPA: “Oak Hills brewer Stephen Harper has here a beer built with one thing in mind:  to showcase the amazing new Mosaic hop. Thirteen pounds of nothing but this coveted (and very limited )hop strain were used in the brew. An offspring of the wildly popular Simcoe strain, Mosaics display a wide and complex array of flavors and aroma. Earthy, pine notes will be noticed up front. With tropical fruit and citrus flavors following, this IPA will take you on an exciting tour of what the Mosaic hop has to offer.” The tasting starts at 4pm and when it’s gone, it’s gone.

Cascade Brewing (Portland): Tonight’s Tap It Tuesday event at the Barrel House at 6pm features a beer name that certainly caught my eye: “Live” Honey Citrus Marshmallow Reserve. “This special offering from the depths of the blenders’ cellar is a spiced Quad that was aged for more than 36 months before receiving additions of orange peel, honey and vanilla beans. Aromas of sweet candy marshmallow followed by tart essences of citrus grab your attention right away. Tart citrus and spice dance on the palate and roll quickly to a pronounced finish of sweet orange and Marshmallow. This is an extremely old barrel that we had a hard time parting with. The addition of the honey and the Bourbon vanilla beans really take this “Reserve” sour over the top. 11.5% ABV, $8 glass, $3 taster.”

10 Barrel Brewing (Bend): In addition to being featured at Belmont Station tonight, they also posted some details about one of the new “Hop Project” beers I posted about previously: Batch #91, the first of the four to be bottled. Based on the label it’s a “Black India Pale Ale” that’s 7.3% abv and 94 IBUs.

Golden Valley Brewery (McMinnville) has a release coming out this Thursday, for their French Prairie Blanche (I’m guessing a Wit?) that will be paired with fresh Alaskan oysters. “These oysters offer exceptional sweetness, richness, and minerality because of the pristine pure environment where they are raised. Oysters will be available on the half shell. These oysters have rarely been available in the lower 48 and will be available on a first come first serve until we run out.” More about the beer as I find out.

Worthy Brewing (Bend) is expanding—already! They posted a photo today showing four new tanks resting on a trailer. They’ve been officially brewing beer for only about 3 months now so it’s nice (and amazing) to see expansion in the works already.
