Oregon Beer News, 03/18/2013

Oregon BeerWelcome to Monday—I hope this day after St. Patrick’s Day is treating you well! Here’s the news in Oregon beer for Monday the 18th of March. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often for the latest news. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that posted as well.

This must be the month of new Oregon breweries; not only did I mentioned De Garde Brewing opening up in Tillamook soon (via New School), there’s now news of a new Feckin Brewery opening up in Maher’s Irish Brew Pub in Lake Oswego (also via New School). Ezra writes, “Maher’s Irish Pub has been a longtime popular watering hold in Lake Oswego, a beer haven in a town without much good beer. In 2011 owner Mark Maher and his chef Alex Graham started making their own beer on site from a homebrew setup out of a converted keg and serving up their house brew 15 gallons at a time at the pub. Perhaps tired of trying to keep up with demand, they have just applied for a license to open “Feckin Brewing” as its own standalone production brewery in Oregon City that will have a new 7bbl brewhouse.”

And Coos Bay is soon to see a new brewery: 7 Devils Brewing, which looks to tentatively open this month, at least according to their Facebook page: “Annie Pollard and Carmen Matthews are opening a brewery in Coos Bay, Oregon! We are hoping to be open in March of 2013. Specializing in ales, we hope to keep the craft beer movement alive and well on the south coast! Go on be a local.”  I don’t know exactly what size brewing system they have but judging on their Facebook photos a least a few barrels. They plan to open in downtown Coos Bay at 245 S 2nd Street.

Portal Brewing (Medford) officially opened yesterday (on St. Patrick’s Day, that’s pretty fitting!), opening around 3pm with corned beef and a red ale on tap. Sounds like a successful soft opening too: “We had a wonderful weekend! Thanks to all who came out and made it a great St Patricks opening! We are going to take a few days off, then we will be back before the weekend. Thank you Jim, Bryan and Mindi!” Nice to see another choice in Southern Oregon.

Crux Fermentation Project (Bend): Their first bottle release is taking place today at 5:30pm! Here’s the blurb: “It’s a very rare Monday (normally we’re closed on Mondays). Join us this evening at 5:30 pm as we open the doors and release the first in our Tasting Room Series. This is a limited-supply series of 500ML bottles only available for purchase in our Tasting Room.”  The beers listed are Outcast IPA, On the Fence NW Pale Ale, Doublecross Dark Belgian, and Crux Porter. Nothing posted on prices that I can see, but I’m quite sure that won’t stop them from selling out quickly.
