Oregon Beer News, 03/16/2016

Oregon BeerHere’s the news in Oregon beer for Wednesday, March 16. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news, so check back often for updates. If you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.

The Platypus Pub (Bend) is hosting Bend’s newest brewery, Kobold Brewing, tonight for a tasting and meet the brewer from 6 to 8pm: “Steve Anderson from Kobold Brewing, one of Bend’s newest breweries will be here Wednesday night to sample out a few of his beers. We will have his Crooked Fate IPA and Chocolate Oatmeal Stout on tap and for samples. The Stout comes in at 6.6% with 62 IBU’s, and the IPA has 63 IBU’s at 6.5%. Steve will also be bringing other beers for samples.”

The Bier Stein (Eugene): Tonight from 6 to 9pm they are welcome Gilgamesh Brewing for a Terry Porter / Dornbecher Children’s Hospital Event: “This is going to be great! Not just because it’s a charity benefit featuring a great beer named after a great basketball player. Gilgamesh got hold of a 4-player arcade game of NBA Jam that actually features Terry Porter and Clyde “The Glide” Drexler of the Portland Trailblazers. The game will be here for two weeks, and all quarters will be donated to the cause too! Bring your friends to our pop-up arcade… BOOM SHAKALAKA!”

Lompoc Brewing (Portland) has their “Night of the Living Red” beer event taking place at the Sidebar today starting at 4pm: “Join us for “Night of the Living Red” at Sidebar on Wednesday, March 16. We’ll be featuring six red Lompoc beers. Patrons can purchase a taster tray of all six beers for $12, or buy each beer individually. Look for the following on tap: Dagda: (Lompoc’s St. Patrick’s Day seasonal), Protelariat Red, 2015 Cherry Christmas, 2015 Cherry Bomb Smoked Red Ale, 2013 Fleming Red Ale, and 2012 Franc’ly Brewdolph.”

McMenamins Murray & Allen (Beaverton) has their “Sippin’ in the Suburbs” beer tasting tonight from 5 to 8pm, featuring 7 Grain Belgian Stout: “The backbone of this glorious Stout consists of seven different grains mashed together. Chinook and Centennial Hops give a floral aroma and balance to the brew. It’s then finished off with a Belgian Wit Yeast strain that makes this Stout completely unique. Enjoy a truly different and one of a kind Stout, made only at the Oak Hills Brewery.”

The Green Dragon (Portland): Today’s Green Dragon Brew Crew beer release starting at 5pm is featuring Pasture Brown Ale: “This week, the Green Dragon Brew Crew and guest brewer Lee Hedgmon are serving up a Southern English-style brown ale called Pasture Brown. Lee created the recipe using malted and roasted buckwheat groats and buckwheat honey. Pasture Brown Ale starts off with robust roasted and chocolate flavors, notes of molasses, a fresh earthy aroma, and finishes dry and crisp. A perfect brew for welcoming spring. Come by the Green Dragon Wednesday evening and join us as we ring in a new season with Pasture Brown Ale.”

Hop Valley Brewing (Springfield): They’ve got a fundraising night at their Eugene Tasting Room tonight from 5 to 8pm: “Join us in the Tasting Room for Hops that Help on Wednesday, March 16th, where $1 of every pint sold will be donated to Habitat for Humanity.” Make sure to enjoy a pint or three!

Cascade Brewing (Portland): A new version of their Honeycot returns today: “This Wednesday, Honeycot returns in a new 2015 blend! This Northwest sour ale is a blend of blond ales aged for 15 months on fresh apricots with a late addition of wildflower honey. Honeycot features flavors of apricot preserves, honeysuckle flowers and raw honeycomb.”

Rogue Ales (Newport): Their (annual?) St. Patrick’s Day/Spring Break garage sales at their various locations begin today, and runs through Sunday the 20th. “Spring Break Garage sales will be taking place at the following Rogue pubs and locations: Rogue Ales & Spirits, Rogue Ales & Spirits, Rogue Ales & Spirits, Rogue Ales & Spirits, Rogue Ales & Spirits, The Green Door. This weekend, get your Rogue lagers, stouts and ales in kegs, bottles and growlers as well as t-shirts, sweatshirts, hats, glassware and other Rogue goods while saving some money.”

Baerlic Brewing (Portland) today is hosting a hop workshop whimsically named “Adopt’A’Hop To End Hoplessness!” from 6 to 8pm: “Come celebrate the beautiful bounty of all things Hops! Hosted by Baerlic with support from Crosby Hop Farm and F.H. Steinbart Co., this educational workshop will demistify and examine everybody’s favorite brewing ingredient- HOPS! Learn how to choose the right hop for your home brewing; how to evaluate hop aroma through hop sensory; learn tips and tricks from the pros on how to grow your own; order hop rhizomes for your own garden …and more! We’ll be pouring a hoppy collab beer brewed with F.H. Steinbart Co.”

Fat Head’s Brewery (Portland) has a new beer tapping today: “Call Me Big Hoppa Mosaic IPA! This dank IPA has the aroma of a tropical fruit cup, followed by big flavors of peach, mango, grapefruit, and just a touch of pine.”

Worthy Brewing (Bend) also has a new beer on tap now you might be interested in: “Couer de la Peche is on tap now! We added peach and apricot purée to our traditional saison. Comes in at 7%, and so light and refreshing on the palate.” Yum!

Agrarian Ales (Eugene) has news of their newest beer: “The Skellig Black has been tapped! We just tapped our @ravenandrosepdx collaboration Irish Stout on Nitro and it is delicious. This brew will be a consistent mainstay at Raven & Rose along with with appearances at our Tasting Room. If you are in PDX tomorrow head down there for a pint or three!!!”

Coalition Brewing (Portland): New tanks, new expansion! “Yeeeehaw!!! New 20 bbl tanks are in the house! FV3 and BB1 are moving to reno to make room for these new beauties. Prepare for lots more beer just in time for the nice weather!”

Santiam Brewing (Salem) has a sneak peek at a new beer they have coming out: “Want to try a sneak preview of Santiam’s newest brew tonight? Well, come on down to Capitol City Theater for tonight’s BrewYah! comedy and craft beer event starting at 7PM. I’ll be pouring some samples of our soon to be released Bloody Hell! Blood Orange and Grapefruit Imperial IPA. It’s Bloody Delicious. Plus we’ll be doing a brewery party and giving away some beer swag with our friends from Calapooia.”

Deschutes Brewery (Bend) has an update on their latest Pub Reserve specialty beer coming out next year (yes, you’ll have to wait!): “Bend Pub Brewer Robin is so excited about the return of CHIPOCALYPSE STOUT as part of our Pub Reserve Series! This chocolate stout is 100% rye barrel-aged with a kick from chipotle spices. It’s gonna be so yummy! It will be available in bottles only at our pubs & tasting room next year after the aging process is complete… “It will LIVE AGAIN!” – Robin”
