Oregon BeerBeware the Ides of March! (I don’t have a clever beer reference for that, unless there’s a Caesar beer out there somewhere…) Here’s the news from Oregon’s beer scene for Tuesday, March 15. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often for the latest news. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that posted as well.

Hopworks Urban Brewery (Portland) is celebrating 8 years today at their (main) Powell location! “On March 15 help us celebrate 8 years of delicious beer and food at our Powell brewpub! We’re serving $3 pints of our classic beers and birthday cake at 6pm. Also be sure to grab a pint of our new, year-round beer [Gear Up IPA]. Cheers!” Big congrats! The Powell HUB spot is one of my favorites in Portland, I’m glad to see them going strong.

Laurelwood Brewing (Portland): Speaking of anniversaries, Laurelwood is celebrating their 15th anniversary today! That’s a huge milestone that almost slipped under the radar! “It’s Laurelwood Public House & Brewery’s birthday! Celebrate 15 years of handcrafted brews, fine pub food, and family-friendly fun with us at our flagship location, at 5115 NE Sandy Boulevard, on Tuesday, March 15. No entry required, everyone is welcomed — so bring your friends and family and enjoy.” There will be $2 pints all day (except on imperial beers), freebies and swag, giveaways, birthday cake and more! HUGE congrats!

Cascade Brewing (Portland): Today’s Tap It Tuesday at the Barrel House at 6pm is featuring “Et Two, Fruitus?” (yay, a Caesar reference!): “Released on the Ides of March, the date of Julius Caesar’s assassination, Et Two, Fruitus? references Caesar’s last words, “Et tu, Brutus?” This limited blend features a sour bock ale aged with two fruits: black raspberries and orange peel. Pouring a bloody red, Et Two, Fruitus reminds us to ‘Beware the Ides of March.'”

Deschutes Brewery (Bend): Tuesdays are Deschutes’ Community Pint Night days, donating $1 of every pint sold to a charitable cause. In Bend they are donating to the Latino Community Association, and in Portland the cause is Friends of Trees. Be sure to stop by and have a pint or three!

Fat Head’s Brewery (Portland) has a beer back on tap that’s perfect for the impending spring: “The long awaited return of Alpenglow Weizenbock is over! Come on in Friday, March 18th for a glass! Maybe catch come NCAA Tournament and eat some smoked and chargrilled chicken wings as well!”

Ordnance Brewing (Boardman) posted a picture and status of a coming bottle label: “One step closer to being in bottles. We are seeing our label approvals come in which means we have government blessing to print labels and fill bottles. Getting closer every day!” With label approvals there shouldn’t be much more “red tape” in the way of bottling, so likely it’s down to equipment/cost. Will be cool to see these bottles show up at some point soon!

Block 15 Brewery (Corvallis): They have a charity night going on at their (new) south Corvallis tap room tonight: “Join us today for a special Tap Room Dine Out in support of the Mr./Ms. Spartan Program at Corvallis High School. A portion of today’s food sales will go to benefit this six month long, student lead fundraiser for charity!”

Bend Shovel Brewing (Oregon City): They have a new beer release hitting this week: “Beer release: Our Clashing Plaids Irish Red is debuting 3/17 at [Feckin Brewing] and at [Bent Shovel] 3/19. Be sure to grab a few pints of this delicious, crisp, malty delight!”

It’s still a ways off until June for the Eastern Oregon Beer Festival (June 18 to be exact), but they posted today that their passes (aka “tickets”) are now available starting today. There is a general admission pass for $25 and VIP for $50. I don’t know how quickly they will sell out but if you’re planning to attend the Fest in La Grande, you may want to purchase your tickets now.
