Oregon BeerHere’s the news in Oregon beer for Tuesday, March 13th. As usual, I’ll be updating this post throughout the day, so if you have some news to share please contact me and I will get it updated.

Upright Brewing (Portland): At the end of the month, on Friday, March 30th, Upright is celebrating their 3rd anniversary with a release party for their newest seasonal, “Blend Love” from 4:30 to 9pm that day. “Four casks containing a sour cherry version of the Four were blended with about a cask and a half of raspberry laden Six to create this characterful sour ale, full of lactic and acetic character, fruit and oak tannins, and a light funkiness from brettanomyces yeast. It was a blast to produce and then name this beer after one of Upright’s favorite people and brewers, Ben Love. It’s perfectly ready to enjoy now but will cellar well for several years. One keg will be on tap along with plenty of bottles for sale at $12 a 750ml and $125 a case.” Mark your calendars for the 30th if you’re in Portland, this is one beer and celebration you’ll not want to miss.

Belmont Station (Portland): Tonight they have a tasting and “meet the founder” with Bend’s Silver Moon Brewing from 6 to 8pm: “Silver Moon Founder Tyler Reichert will be here pouring tastes of Hop Knob IPA, Badlands ESB, Snakebite Porter, Hoptagon Imperial IPA, and Houndstooth Amber. The new Shakedown Oatmeal Brown Ale and Hop Knob IPA on tap in our Biercafe.” Tyler’s an interesting guy and Silver Moon is putting out some really good beers, this should be a good tasting.

At Silver Moon in Bend, meanwhile, their Growler Power Hour deals for this week are Hound’s Tooth Amber Ale, Snake Bite Porter, and Hop Knob IPA: from 4 to 6pm today and tomorrow (Wednesday), you can fill a growler with any (or all) of those three beers for only $5.

Cascade Brewing (Portland): Tonight’s Tap It Tuesday at the Barrel House features a most interesting beer: Pink Pixie Sticks. “This live barrel of NW style sour ale is a one-off from the blenders, in which several beers and barrels were blended for effect. It’s very similar to a popular candy, but with a more pronounced pucker. Sweet tart fruit, candy and hints of sweet raspberries and grape notes are present in the nose. Tart flavors of raspberries, lemon peel and hints of cherries roll across the palate, leading to a dry, effervescent finish with lingering hints of sweet candy.” 7.25% ABV, $6.50/glass, be there at 6pm for the tapping.

The Green Dragon (Portland) has their Pliny the Younger day going on tomorrow (Wednesday), from 5 to 8pm. As with any PtY tapping, tickets are limited so if you want to get in on the tasting you’ll need to call 503-517-0660 to reserve a spot.

Alameda Brewing (Portland) has their official release party for their Bad Bunny Imperial Cream Ale next Thursday, March 22nd, featuring $2 pints all day and bottles of Bad Bunny available for sale also. I’m a fan of cream ales, and this one is indeed Imperial: “With most cream ales ranging around 5% ABV, Bad Bunny is 8.2% ABV due to large quantities of Pilsner malt and candy sugar. Flaked maize and Czech Saaz hops also lend this beer a characteristic cream ale flavor and aroma while complimenting with a subtle spiciness.” (It’s also one of those beers that you just have to wonder how they came up with that name…)

Falling Sky Brewing (Eugene): Today is their first official day of pouring beer! “Today’s forecast. Rain or shine, Falling Sky brews will pour! We are releasing seven beers today in the culmination of a lot of blood, sweat, and tears, or rather a lot of malt, hops, and yeast! The Taplist starting at 5pm: Bare Hands Bitter, Persuasion Pale Ale, First Flight IPA, Pouring Porter, Rough & Ready NW Red, Three Sisters Pale Ale, and Golden Naked Blond.” That’s an impressive lineup for a launch, and based on that I’m sure Eugene’s newest brewery will do very well!
