Hopworks Urban Brewery (Portland) is celebrating their 5th anniversary today! Over the past half decade HUB has established itself as an integral part of Portland’s amazing brewing scene, so much so that they are one of the places that first comes to mind when someone asks me what breweries they should visit in Portland. Today’s going to be a great day for them. “[C]elebrate our 5th Birthday at our Powell Blvd. brewpub with $2 HUBH organic beers, special releases from our beer cellar, the release of our 5th Anniversary Black Dragon Oat Stout and a free photo booth from 5 – 8 p.m.” The stout sounds like a super drinkable, and at 4.6% abv they buck the trend of “big” anniversary beers. It will be paired with a special anniversary shepherd’s pie as well. Don’t miss the party!
Cascade Brewing (Portland): Today’s Tap It Tuesday at the Barrel House at 6pm is featuring “Live” Young Gose: “This NW style sour beer is a sneak peak at a re-creation of an historic German wheat beer style that was nearly lost to time. This light, slightly soured beer is brewed with sea salt to mimic the original water conditions of Lipzig, Germany, where the beer originated. Aromas of sweet, soft wheat and light citrus are noticed up front. Soft wheat and a note of lemon dance on the palate. It finishes off with a soft lingering sweetness and just a slight dusty lemon note. This beer will develop more tartness as the lactic fermentation finishes in a few months. We will spice it with coriander to finish the process. 5% ABV, $5 glass.”
The annual FredFest that takes place in Portland has been announced, and it’s taking place on Sunday, May 5 this year—and tickets to this exclusive event go on sale today! “What started as a small surprise 80th birthday party for world-renowned beer writer Fred Eckhardt is coming back around in its seventh year as one of the most anticipated beer events of the year. Attendees will be treated not only to a rare assortment of hand-selected beers, but also light fare cooked in beer and a birthday cake, complete with a round of “Happy Birthday”, just for Fred. Cheeses, chocolate, candy and even cereal will be offered in abundance so attendees can experience some of Fred’s famed beer-and-food pairings.” It’s taking place at Hair of the Dog Brewing again this year and tickets are $75 which must be purchased in advance—which you can get on the FredFest site. This is one of the cream of the crop Portland beer events so if you can make it, you really should!
The Lucky Lab (Portland) has a new beer release hitting all four of their pubs: “All four pubs have our Doppelganger Dopplebock, a robust blend of five barley malts with a light dose of Northern Brewer and Hallertau hops. Our traditional dopplebock is our tribute to German Friars who drank this “liquid bread” during fasting times.” A perfect springtime beer!
10 Barrel Brewing (Bend) is releasing a special “Hop Project” pack of four experimental IPAs that they are promising to “blow some minds.” No info on what’s going on in that pack other than the labels Batch #2, #37, #91, and #136. Should be interesting.
