Oregon Beer News, 03/09/2015

Oregon BeerI’d say “Happy Monday” but with daylight saving time in full swing I’m not sure we’re feeling it. Maybe a few extra coffee (stouts) to get your day going? Here’s the news in Oregon beer for Monday, March 9. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news as I find it, so check back often. If you have news to share, please let me know and I can get that updated as well.

Oakshire Brewing (Eugene): This Saturday, March 14, is the brewery’s Hellshire day—the release of their Hellshire V barrel-aged beer but because it has become such an event, they’ve turned it into their 2nd Annual Hellshire Day & Barrel-Aged Beer Fest taking place at their Public House starting at 11am. “To celebrate the release and the craft of barrel-aging, we’re hosting a 2nd Annual Hellshire Day & Barrel-Aged Beer Fest at our Public House, including offerings from Oakshire’s barrel-aging cellar and dozens of barrel-aged beers from breweries around the country.” With 51+ beers it’s going to be a Hell of a day (pun intended!); here’s the Facebook event page, and admission is $25 which gets you a Hellshire V glass and 5 tasting tokens. And oh yeah, don’t forget to pick up some bottles of Hellshire V.

And, if you wanted to get started a day early, Oakshire is offering a special event on Friday the 13th: The Hellshire Experience. “Tickets on sale NOW at Oakshire Public House for The Hellshire Experience on Friday March 13th. Private reception at the Public House: Check. Bus ride to the brewery for a tour of our Barrel aging program: Check. Wax-dipping your own bottle of Hellshire V and bringing it home a day early: You bet! On top of that, we’ll even bring you back to the Public House and your ticket will get you into Hellshire Day on Saturday…EARLY! All that for only $75.”

HUGE news! I reported a few weeks ago about Hood River’s Full Sail Brewing being courted by an investment group purchase, with employees voting on the outcome. Well, the vote came down on Friday, and Pete Dunlop reported Saturday that they would sell, and today the New School confirms and has a longer story. Expect much more commentary and editorial over the next few days and weeks and everyone scrambles to try to explain what they think this will mean for the future of Full Sail.

And, this Thursday the 12th is Full Sail’s monthly Brewmaster Dinner. The theme for this month is, of course, Saint Paddy’s: “Four gourmet courses, each expertly paired with an award-winning Full Sail brew.” The courses look tasty and appropriately-themed; “Chef Ryan Callaghan and Brewmaster Jamie Emmerson team up to create four delicious courses each paired with an award-winning Full Sail brew. All for just $40. Service starts at 5PM.”

More collaboration brewing is in the works today for the Craft Brewers Conference in Portland next month, as posted by Ben Love on Facebook: “CBC collabo brew: Original Blitz. Ecplitic, Baerlic, Burnside, Widmer, Lompoc, Base Camp, Old Town, Gigantic.” 8 breweries, looks like they are at Ecliptic Brewing for the brewing of said beer—“Original Blitz” (I saw another post somewhere that said “Imperial Blitz”), which makes me wonder if they are doing a pre-Prohibition-style lager based on the original Weinhard’s recipe? That would be cool!

Double Mountain Brewery (Hood River) has a new beer on tap for perfect weather: “The doors are wide open, spring is in the air, and we have a new beer on tap. Biere de Mars has inviting aromas of apple, honey, and treacle lead to flavors of melon, toffee, and mulled spice. A beautiful way to welcome in early spring.”
