Oregon Beer News, 03/08/2016

Oregon BeerToday is International Women’s Day, so be sure to toast a beer to the women in your life—ideally brewed by a woman brewer! Here’s the news for this Tuesday, March 8; as usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often for the latest news. If you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.

McMenamins on Monroe (Corvallis): Tonight’s Meet Your Maker beer tasting from 4 to 7pm is featuring Orange Sunshine: Blood Orange Wheat Ale: “Orange Sunshine is a Wheat Beer with a small amount of Blood Orange added after fermentation is complete. This small addition brings a new dimension of flavor and aroma to the classic American Wheat style, both increasing the golden color and adding orange with a slight raspberry note in the aroma. This is a very refreshing and flavorful brew.” Brewer Gary Nance should be on hand to talk about the beer and answer questions.

Belmont Station (Portland) is hosting Washington’s Backwoods Brewing today for a seasonal tasting from 5 to 7pm: “Stop by for a tasting of select Backwoods beers including their new seasonal Spring Creek Peppercorn Saison and other bottles, plus we will be pouring Double Cutt DIPA in the taproom.”

Cascade Brewing (Portland): Tonight’s Tap It Tuesday at the Barrel House at 6pm is featuring Grapefruit Wheat, “which features our base Wheat beer soured in a white wine barrel for 11 months with grapefruit peel. Spotlighting flavors of fresh grapefruit and other citrus fruits with a touch of bitterness, Grapefruit Wheat celebrates the end of the 2016 citrus fruit harvest. This was one of the beers we served at last month’s Zwickelmania!”

Deschutes Brewery (Bend): Tuesdays are their Community Pint Nights at their pubs, supporting local charity organizations all day long: “Every Tuesday our pub celebrates Community Pints! We donate $1 of every pint sold to a chosen local non-profit! For the month of March we are proud to have partnered with the Latino Community Association of Central Oregon. Join us, as we gather for a pint of damn tasty beer and some good ol fashioned community cheer!”

Block 15 Brewery (Corvallis): They are celebrating their 8th anniversary this Saturday the 12th! They have two limited anniversary beers being released: “Both will be available at our downtown Pub when our doors open at 11am. Be on the lookout for an epic Saturday-only food special as well! (We won’t be hosting a brunch for this bottle release, so both are first-come, first-served.)” The beers are The Incredible, an “Imperial Double IPA,” and Fortuitous 2016, a Red Farmhouse Ale.

McMenamins Old Church (Wilsonville): Tonight they have their Chance at the Church beer release from 5 to 8pm, featuring Tiramisu Stout: “For the month of March, the Old Church Brewery will be releasing Tiramisu Stout. It’s an infused version of McMemamins Irish Stout where coffee, chocolate, and vanilla swirl in delicious harmony before fading to a smooth, dry finish. Whether you’re a dark beer fan or merely looking to try something new, this fun take on an old classic will not disappoint. This is truly one limited beer, so try it before it’s gone!” That sounds pretty tasty!

Standing Stone Brewing (Ashland): Tonight is their final Pints with a Purpose night for the season, donating a portion of their beer sales to a charitable organization. More details here: “The Stand Up For Oregon! NO LNG. NO Pipeline is a coalition of organizations, landowners, businesses, climate activists, conservationists and concerned citizens working to stop the Jordan Cove Energy Project. As part of our mission at Standing Stone Brewing Company, we believe in smart resource use, renewable energy, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and supporting causes that align themselves with our mission. The Stand Up For Oregon! NO LNG. NO Pipeline campaign encompasses many of our values and we look forward to supporting their work by opening our doors to their organizations and by donating $2 from every pint of beer sold between 5-10pm.”

Thunder Island Brewing (Cascade Locks) has a new beer release today, Saison du Citrus: “We’ll be pouring a limited release of Saison du Citrus. Come meet our brew crew! All beers are $3 during this event. Our Head Brewer, Brian Perkey notes that citrus flavors are a component of many beers via the use of selected hop varieties. As such, brewers of IPA’s have lately been using citrus fruits to accentuate that character. We felt that a citrus addition would be a nice complement to our Saison du Bonneville. Earthy and lemony notes prevail in this beer already so with the addition of some fresh grapefruit, it should prove to be a crisp breakfast-worthy (or in this case, evening-worthy) beer. This beer will only be available on this night, so don’t miss out!” It takes place from 5 to 7pm.

Portland’s Awesome Ales has a new beer out of their own now, a French Pale Ale dubbed Southern Sky: “‘Southern Sky’ is the marriage of a French Biere de Garde and a Bohemian Pilsner, with certain Oregon sensibilities. An effervescent and nicely bodied Ale with moderate hopping that carries and transforms throughout the mouth with a very dry finish. It’s a very drinkable and refreshing beer. ABV%5.8 IBU 38”

The Oregon Brewers Festival has got the beer and breweries list posted for this years Brewfest taking place in July! There are a lot of TBAs still on the list but from what I see so far I’m really liking these beers. Start your planning accordingly.
