Oregon BeerSnow and winter weather returns for this Monday, March 6! Here’s the news in Oregon beer to help pass the time while you’re hiding from the snow. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news as I find it, so check back often. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that posted as well.

Breakside Brewery (Portland): Their new Slabtown location is open starting today! From the press release: “The three level, restaurant, and bar also has a custom JVNW 10 barrel brewhouse designed for optimizing hop flavor and aroma. Breakside has named the new Slabtown brewery (their 3rd brewhouse) the “Hop Lab” and it will produce hop forward beers designed to be served fresh at the pub and not kegged or distributed except for the occasional special event.” Big congrats to Breakside on the third location!

The third annual Baker’s Dozen fest returns this Saturday, March 11, featuring coffee, beer, and doughnuts—basically the perfect breakfast! “Baker’s Dozen (COFFEE BEER & DOUGHNUT FEST) features 3 things PDX does best: beer, coffee, & doughnuts. Admission includes samples of all the above! There will be 2 sessions on Sat 3/11: 10 a.m.-1 p.m. & 2-5 p.m. Tix are $27 online, $30 at the door. 21+ to drink; all-ages welcome.” Tickets are available online here, and it takes place at Culmination Brewing once again. Make sure to get your tickets before they sell out!

And speaking of Portland’s Culmination Brewing, they have their new Prevernal Pilsner going on tap today: “Our new Pilsner, Prevernal Pilsner, is NOW on tap in our taproom. Our Executive Chef CJ Mueller helped with both the recipe development and the brewing of this beer. This refreshing and easy drinking beer was brewed using pilsner, caramunich, rye and oats. Hallertau Blanc hops took care of the bittering of this pilsner and add subtle notes of earth and spice. A further addition of Azacca hops add tropical fruit and citrus like aromas. This beer is 5.3% ABV and 34 IBU. Enjoy!”

Widmer Brothers Brewing has a terrific special on Hefeweizen at their pub today and tomorrow: “Hefe took gold at the Oregon Beer Awards Ceremony 2017, for the second year in a row, and we’re celebrating the win! Mention this post at our pub this Monday and Tuesday (3/6-3/7) to get $1 Hefes!” I would totally do this if I were in Portland.

Block 15 Brewery (Corvallis): Tonight at their Tap Room at SW Deschutes Street, Block 15 is hosting a “Tap Talk” with Dr. Tom Shellhammer, the Nor’Wester Professor of Fermentation Science at Oregon State University. “American beer is no longer simply pale, fizzy yellow beer, it is quite the opposite. The emergence of craft beer provides today’s beer drinker with nearly overwhelming choice, and craft beer and the culture that surrounds it has captured the attention of beer drinkers globally. While consumers now find over 100 different styles of beer to choose from, by far the most popular is the IPA. In fact, over 90% of the current 100 best selling beers in America are hop-forward. Why are consumers so enamored with hoppy beers? Are all hoppy beers bitter? Why do some beers smell like a cat peed on a Christmas tree while others smell like Cannabis and yet others smell like a floral herb garden? Join us at Block 15 Brewery & Taproom in southtown Corvallis where Dr. Tom Shellhammer will talk about beer and hops and lead a discussion surrounding the most popular craft beer category.” The talk begins at 7pm, but get there early to ensure you get in.

And, Block 15 has their Brewer’s Cut of Sticky Hands coming out: “Coming soon to Official Sticky Hands Dealers around Oregon—Sticky Hands, Brewer’s Cut. Our next Sticky Hands Variation, Brewer’s Cut features the hop varietals and lots that our brewers hand-selected in Yakima—Amarillo, Centennial, Citra, Mosaic, and Azacca. Together, they produce a captivating combination of citrusy, dank, floral, and tropical hop notes that seamlessly blend with our base Sticky Hands recipe.”

Belmont Station (Portland) is welcoming Golden Valley Brewery for a tasting tonight: “We welcome Jesse Shue and the rest of the crew for an evening of getting to know Golden Valley. As a veteran in the Northwest brewing scene, and a recipient of a brewing scholarship from the Glen Hay Falconer Foundation, Jesse brews beer in the English tradition, while being innovative and pushing the envelope with barrel aging and Belgian-style beers.”

Falling Sky Brewing (Eugene) has their anniversary beer cellaring now and are inviting you to name it! “Help us name our anniversary beer, cellaring now in S-12. WINNER gets 100 gift card!! #letitpour. 5th Anniversary DoppelBock 6.85%ABV 17IBU. For our 5th year anniversary we wanted to do something we haven’t done before. So we made our first try at a Doppelbock using a old world technique of a Triple Decoction mash in order to increase the Mallard reactions to promote big malt flavors and aromas. This Doppelbock pours a nice rich copper color with a dense white head. The flavor and aroma is malt forward with notes of toasted malts and baking bread.” Get on it!
