Oregon Beer News, 03/06/2014

Here is the beer news from around Oregon for Thursday, the 6th of March. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news, so check back often for updates. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.

Deschutes Brewery (Bend): Today is the release of their Reserve Series Mirror Mirror which last appeared in 2009. All day starting at 11 (when they opened) the Bend Pub and Portland Pub are celebrating: “Not only will you get to take home up to 6 bottles per person, but we’ll have some great specials going on all day. Order a snifter of this barley wine and get a small bite food pairing to accompany your beer. Order one of the food specials of the day and get a 4 oz sample of barley wine to pair with your tasty meal. Either way, it’s a win win (or Mirror Mirror) situation for all!”

Belmont Station (Portland) is hosting Corvallis’ Flat Tail Brewing today for a bottle tasting and meet the brewer from 5 to 8pm: “Flat Tail’s brewmaster Dave Marliave will be donning his cucumber suit (yes, he really owns one) as we release this year’s El Guapo Cucumber Lime Habanero beer, Humulus Nocta, a barrel-fermented sour ale fermented entirely with Brett. Lambicus, and a brand-new Seriously Low-Budget Double IPA  in the bottle shop. We also will be pouring some tasty Flat Tail beers in the Biercafe, including the Humulus Nocta and Tailgater Kolsch.”

Juniper Brewing (Redmond) is holding their official ribbon cutting and opening today in Redmond from 4 to 6pm! According to our local paper, there will be “three beers to the public for its opening: an IPA, a black ale and a Belgian wit, or white beer, called The Milk Man.”

McMenamins Old Church & Pub (Wilsonville): They have a special beer tasting and meet the brewer today kicking off at 5pm featuring Belgian Leaf IPA: “Belgian Leaf IPA is a combination of our Green Leaf IPA fermented with Belgian Ardennes yeast resulting in a truly unique brew. Expect a strong Northwest hop character juxtaposed against delicate yeast esters of fruit and spice. This beer was made to break the mold!”

Oakshire Brewing (Eugene) is heading over to The Bier Stein tonight from 6 to 9pm for the release of their Perfect Storm. Says Oakshire: “Join Lead Brewer Tyler West and our promotions guru Brian Coombs for a release of Oakshire’s Perfect Storm Double IPA at The Bier Stein this Thursday, 3/6, from 6 to 9pm! Grab two bottles to go and take home an Oakshire tulip glass!” The beer is 9.7% abv and over 100 IBUs.

McMenamins Fulton Pub & Brewery (Portland) has a limited-edition beer tasting starting at 5pm with their Panhandle Oatmeal Pale pouring: “Amarillo Texas happens to be the most populated city in the Texas Panhandle. It is no accident then, that Panhandle Oatmeal Pale is heavily populated with Northwest grown Amarillo hops. The result is a hoppy ale with rich texture and a delicious orange like citrus flavor and aroma. Mild caramel notes round out the finish of this northwest style pale ale.”

Cascade Brewing (Portland): Today is the release of one of their much-vaunted beers, The Vine! “The Vine 2013 will be released on draft and in bottles at the Raccoon Lodge, Barrel House and online this Thursday, March 6th at 4:30pm PST. $6.5 8oz Glass, $2 Taster, $20 750ml Bottle. We will also have a ¼ bbl of the 2009 The Vine on tap at the Barrel House so you can taste a little vintage Vine.”
