Oregon Beer: Portland Farmhouse FestHere is the news in Oregon beer to start off this new week for Monday, March 19. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news as I find it, so check back often. If you have news to share, please let me know and I can get that updated as well.

This weekend the 6th annual Portland Farmhouse and Wild Ale Festival returns, hosted by Saraveza. The fest takes place Saturday and Sunday the 24th and 25th, with a VIP session on Friday night. There will be “well over fifty different saisons, biere de garde’s, table bier’s and sour & wild mixed fermentation and barrel-aged ales from across the country” and the fest has put together an exclusive collaboration beer with Tillamook’s De Garde Brewing, The Nectarine Cuvée, available in bottles only at the festival. The current beer list is found here, and you can buy tickets online from that page as well — $25 for the two days (VIP is already sold out). The Facebook event page is here.

BridgePort Brewing (Portland) issued some IPA news recently that I’m catching up on; in particular, the brewery is releasing a Hazy IPA. From the press release: “The Hazy IPA creates a ton of hop flavor while keeping hop bitterness low. We use our pale malt combined with Malted and Un-malted White Wheat to create a smooth and slightly hazy background malt flavor. We then do something that we’ve never done before: we don’t add any kettle hops! To accentuate the incredible flavors of Mosaic, Centennial, and Liberty hops, we add all of the brew house hops in the Hopjack after the boil. This way we capture as much of the aroma of these excellent hops without creating a lot of bitterness. Near the end of fermentation we dry hop with Mosaic and an Experimental hop from John I. Haas.” However it also notes it will be released on April 1, so… we’ll see.

Worthy Brewing (Bend): Kama Citrus IPA returns for the season. From the press release: “We re-romanced the recipe to better satisfy that equatorial urge for tropical blood orange and pink guava flavors. What inspired Dustin Kellner, Worthy’s Brewmaster, to freshen up our favorite ‘date night’ IPA? ‘We like to keep things fresh, exciting, and topical,’ he said. ‘As a brewer, there’s nothing better than experimenting with new ingredients and coming up with something to restoke the passions. We love it and hope our customers will too.’ Aside from the new fruit additions, the re-romanced Kama includes a balanced blend of Ekuanot, Amarillo, and Mandarina Bavaria hops. All in all, more juice, less bitterness, more satisfaction. The perfect beer to fall in love with this season. Kama made its official debut at the Bend Pub this past Friday, March 16th offering customers a taste of the new beer as well as food pairings, a Kama Cocktail and live music by JuJu Eyeball. There are two other release parties schedule for March 21st. One at Suds and Suds in Corvallis, OR and the second at The Rivertap in Dalles, OR.”

Block 15 Brewery (Corvallis): The downtown brewpub is closed starting today, through April 6, for renovations: “Our downtown restaurant and brewery will be closed ‪from March 19 – April 6‬ for a restaurant-wide refresh—and we can’t wait to unveil our new look! In the meantime, for delicious, hand-made food during our closure, join us at Caves Bier & Kitchen (right next to our downtown restaurant) or at Block 15 Brewery & Tap Room (located 2 miles south of downtown).”

Kobold Brewing (Bend) has a new beer tapping at the Vault Taphouse in Redmond today, according to the email newsletter: “come enjoy a Krooked Kilt Wee Heavy Scotch Ale this evening, it will be on tap by 5:30 pm. This 9% ABV brew will keep you warm from the inside out and is a perfect friend to have by the fireball.”
