Oregon Beer, Bailey's TaproomHere is the news in beer from around Oregon for this Tuesday, March 13; as usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back from time to time for the latest news. If you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated too.

Bailey’s Taproom (Portland) is welcoming BarrelHouse Brewing out of Paso Robles, California tonight fo BarrelHouse Rock! from 5 to 8pm: “Running Man Distributing is helping BarrelHouse Brewing Company bring their Paso Robles-brewed suds to the Portland market! Join us for this special PDX debut showcase and meet the Owners & Brewers of BHBC.” Looks like a nice lineup of IPAs ans sours, as well as bottles of BarrelHouse’s Nuestra Pina Pineapple Wild Sour available.

Montavilla Brew Works (Portland) has its Plywood Pilsner back on tap today: “Every year we brew some Pilsner with our buddies at Mr Plywood and we’re back at it again! This German-style Pilsner is loaded with 100% German Pilsner malt, Hersbrucker hops and German lager yeast. Light, delicious and refreshing. Come get it!”

Cascade Brewing (Portland): Today’s Tap It Tuesday at the Barrel House at 6pm is featuring Morning Blues: “a blend of sour blond and wheat ales aged for over two years in oak wine barrels with fresh blueberries followed by an infusion of Earl Grey tea. This blend is reminiscent of the soothing warmth of morning tea and a fresh bowl of fruit on a cozy, rainy morning.”

Deschutes Brewery (Bend): Tuesdays are Community Pints days at the Deschutes locations, where $1 of every pint of beer sold is donated to a local non-profit organization. For the month of March, the Bend locations are benefiting the Ronald McDonald House of Bend; in Portland, they are also benefiting Ronald McDonald House Charities of Oregon and SW Washignton. Also today at the Portland pub, from 11 to 4pm the Red Cross will be parked outside accepting blood donations. Get over to Deschutes and help out today with a pint or three.

Standing Stone Brewing (Ashland): Tonight starting at 5pm is the brewery’s Pints for a Purpose fundraiser, benefiting Planned Parenthood of Southwestern Oregon: “Join us for our Pints for a Purpose at Standing Stone Brewing on March 13th, from 5 pm to 10 pm. Enjoy some beer and support our work! For every pint of beer during our event, Standing Stone Brewing Co, donates $2 to us. Thanks to our supporters! **They also will be donating $1 for each House Brewed Root Beer sold so that kids and non-beer-drinkers can also help raise funds for Planned Parenthood too!**”

Eugene’s Beergarden and Tap & Growler have teamed up to host their annual March Madness Blind IPA Taste Off with “Round One” starting today and running through the 18th. The theme this year is “Haze Craze” which of course means hazy, NE-style IPAs. “Each location will host 8 Hazy IPAs from the region, hand selected by teams comprised of their staff members. Each flight will come with the opportunity to vote on which brews move on to the next stage. The first week will consist of 4 separate blind tastings from each corner of the bracket. Two taster trays will be available at each location the first week, each tray is hand selected by one Beer-tender-team. The top two beers from each tray will move onto the second week, featuring one flight of four Hazy IPAs at each location. Week three brings the top two beers from each location to BOTH Beergarden and Tap & Growler, making the same final four showdown at each location. The final two beers will go head to head at both locations as 8oz pours Saturday, March 31st, through Monday, April 2nd”

Ochoco Brewing (Prineville) has a new beer on tap, Wild & Scenic Apricot Witbier. It’s a Belgian-style witbier fermented with apricots, and it’s the first of a larger regional series of beer releases celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Wild & Scenic Rivers Act. From the Cascade Business News: “Land managers and local nonprofits throughout Central Oregon are teaming up to make the region the number one location to honor the 50th anniversary of the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act. The celebration will be occurring all year long, with many breweries dedicating a beer to commemorate the Act. The act preserves certain rivers with outstanding natural, cultural, and recreational values in a free-flowing condition for the enjoyment of present and future generations.” There will be more beers from other Central Oregon breweries released under this series, which I’ll be digging into.

Oregon City Brewing has its Charity Pint Night fundraiser tonight, benefiting Children’s Center: “$1 will be donated to Children’s Center for every OCB pint, taster, soda, crowler, and growler purchased. Minors allowed in taproom until 9pm, on patio until close. Full menu available from OP Wurst, kitchen open until 9pm.” It starts at 5pm.

Portland’s Ecliptic Brewing has a new beer in its Cosmic Collaboration Series coming out, in partnership with Reuben’s Brews. The beer is—wait for it—Crimson Star Hazy Double Pomegranate IPA. “In a time where hazy beers are found in almost every bar and bottle shop in the northwest, seeing how breweries ‘play’ with or further experiment with the style is something to look forward to. Named after a reddish star hidden in the fur of Lepus the hare, Crimson Star is a Hazy Double IPA brewed with pomegranate and guava and dry hopped with Citra, Azacca, Ekuanot, and Motueka hops. Brewed with our friends at Reuben’s Brews, Crimson Star fuses juicy and citrusy hop aromas with crisp pomegranate notes, igniting them in a hazy flavor storm. ABV 9%.” There will be release events for the beer in Portland on the 28th and 30th of this month.
