Oregon BeerHere is the news in Oregon beer for Wednesday, the 20th of February. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often. If you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.

The Bier Stein (Eugene) is hosting California’s Green Flash Brewing for a tasting tonight from 7 to 9pm: “Green Flash Brewing from sunny Vista, CA will be at The Bier Stein this Wednesday the 20th from 7-9pm! Bob from Green Flash will be here pouring FREE samples and we will be serving up some beers on draft not normally available in the market! We will also be raffling off some cool Green Flash gear. Event starts @ 7pm, cheers!”

And, did you know the Bier Stein had moved? I had missed that news until folks at the Broken Top Bottle Shop told me about it: they had outgrown their old location on E 11th Avenue (the nightly crowds were getting too large), and have taken over space at 1591 Willamette Street in the old Midtown Building in Eugene. Growth is always good, and I can’t wait to check out the new spot!

McMenamins Cedar Hills (Beaverton): Today they have a limited-edition beer tasting starting at 4pm, featuring Angry Cherub, a raspberry stout: “Dark, roasty, chocolate flavors provide the back bone for the Angry Cherub. With the addition of a conservative amount of pure fresh raspberries, the Angry Cherub would make a most excellent dessert beer. With a terminal gravity of 16, this stout has a enough residual sugars to smooth out the often bitter quality of Black Malt.  Pair up with a slice of Chocolate cake and make it a memorable experience.” And when it’s gone, it’s gone.

Meanwhile, McMenamins Crystal Ballroom (Portland) has their own limited-edition beer tasting going on in Lola’s Room, featuring General Schwartz Black Lager: “A dark complex lager that will mesmerize and satisfy.  Flavors of chocolate, fresh bread, coffee, caramel, and spice indulge your palate.  A lager yeast strain, as well as a low ferment temperature allows this beer to finish crisp, clean, and surprisingly refreshing. The General is not just a beer, it’s an experience. PROST!” The tasting is from 6 to 8pm.

Pfriem Family Brewers (Hood River): They have a new beer release today, at their brewpub starting at 5:30pm: “New Beer! Mosaic Single Hop Pale, pungent w/ hints of mango & blueberry 6.3% 45 IBU’s. Paired up w/ Chef Tommy’s *free* emmentaler cheese crostinis w/ pickled apple salad on Wed, Feb 20th starts @5:30pm!” Fresh new beer and free food, you cannot go wrong!

Rock Bottom Brewery (Portland): They have a new “Fire Chief Ale” being tapped today that will also be benefiting a good cause: “If you love firemen, $2. beers, and helping a good cause then Rock Bottom is the place to be this Wednesday. Starting at 5:30 pm we are tapping our first keg of Fire Chief ale and selling the contents for $2 a pint. All proceeds from this keg will go to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association.” The $2 special runs from 5:30 to 6:30pm, with the full $2 from each pint during that time benefiting the MDA, and then 25 cents per pint after that do the same. Good cause, worth stopping by if you can.
