Oregon BeerHere is the Oregon beer news for this Thursday, February 16. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.

The Bier Stein (Eugene): STOUTbierzeit month continues at the Stein, with a five year vertical of Deschutes Brewery’s The Abyss taking place today: “On Feb. 16 we’re kicking it up a notch with 5 years of Deschutes Brewery The Abyss, 2012 though 2016. This barrel-aged imperial stout has been brewed since 2006 to much acclaim. It features a blend of some unusual ingredients: blackstrap molasses, brewer’s licorice, vanilla beans, and cherry bark. None of those stand out, but add layers of depth. The final product is a blend of beer aged in Bourbon, Oregon oak, Pinot Noir, and stainless steel.” This will be going on all day, so don’t miss out!

Belmont Station (Portland) has a collaboration beer release from El Segundo brewing and former Fat Head’s brewer Mike Hunsaker’s new Grains of Wrath, taking place from 5 to 7pm tonight: “Please join us and the hoppy brewers from El Segundo and former Fat Heads PDX brewmaster Mike Hunsaker’s new brewery, Grains of Wrath, as they launch the first beer of Super Beer Bros series! Our draft list will include: Super Beer Bros, Level One, Collaboration w/ Grains of Wrath, El Segundo Uh Oh IPA, El Segundo 5lb Sledge Double IPA, El Segundo Power Plant Triple IPA, El Segundo White Dog More on, and El Segundo and Grains of Wrath.”

McMenamins Kennedy School (Portland) has their Extra Credit beer tasting today from 5 to 7pm, featuring Hibernator Doppelbock: “Just in time for cold weather and rainy days, we’re presenting you with our latest offering: Hibernator. Massive malt flavor and aroma shine throughout this dark, crisp Winter Lager. We used a German Lager Yeast strain and treated our water to capture the essence of Munich. Prost!”

2 Towns Ciderhouse (Corvallis) has their latest Limited Release cider out now: Flight of the Kiwi. From the press release: “This week 2 Towns Ciderhouse releases Flight of the Kiwi, an electrifying, oak-aged cider made from Northwest-grown hardy kiwi berries, fresh-pressed apples and gooseberries. With vibrant kiwi aromas and heady tropical notes, Flight of the Kiwi has a sessionable 5.8% ABV. Two pounds of hardy kiwi berries, small cousins of the better-known kiwifruit, go into every gallon of this cider, which is fermented cold with sauvignon blanc yeast for a delicious brew as fun as New Zealand’s curious flightless bird. One small batch of Flight of the Kiwi is now ready for cider lovers , and 2 Towns expects it to ‘fly’ off the shelves. It will be primarily available in Oregon, California and Washington.” I have to hand it to 2 Towns, they are definitely releasing some creative concoctions!

Migration Brewing (Portland): As part of their 7th anniversary, Migration teamed up with Loyal Legion to brew a collaboration beer, and today is the release party and tap takeover which will run through Sunday the 19th: “Its Migration Brewing Company 7th anniversary, and to celebrate we helped brew their anniversary beer with them: 7th Inning Stretch, A coffee milk stout made with bourbon soaked coffee beans.
