Oregon Beer News, 02/13/2013

Oregon BeerHere’s the Oregon beer news for Wednesday, February 13. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often for the latest updates. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.

Hop Valley Brewing (Springfield): This is one of those things that I don’t know why hasn’t been highlighted or promoted more, but Hop Valley is celebrating their 4 Year Anniversary today, starting at 6pm at the Springfield brewery. Their promo blurb says, “2012 Libation Society Barrel Club Awards” (though I’m not sure what this entails) and “First beer free to all mug club members.” I’m sure there will be other anniversary specials as well, so be sure to stop by and check them out if you’re in the Valley!

Worthy Brewing (Bend) is cranking out the beers—in addition to the five they opened with, I tried the new Pilot Butte Bitter (and ESB) over the weekend and yesterday they released their new Porter—“Pangloss Porter.” They wax lyrical about it here; suffice to say, “Don’t let the darkness intimidate: Pangloss Porter offers up a surprisingly smooth and delicious kiss. In lieu of pixie dust,  our Wizard of Wort Chad Kennedy liberally sprinkled his brown porter base with a potent dose of toasted cocoa nibs. Just a touch of Nugget and Fuggle hops to remind you this is a beer not a chocolate shake.” I will need to try this soon.

Belmont Station (Portland): They hosting a mead tasting and meet the maker with Corvallis’ Nectar Creek Honeywine tonight from 5 to 8pm: “Nectar Creek Honeywine was created by two brothers, Phil and Nick Lorenz of Corvallis, with a contagious energy to redefine the world’s oldest fermented beverage as a new and artful libation. All of their mead is handcrafted in small batches using the best ingredients the Pacific Northwest has to offer, highlighting specific blends of Willamette Valley honey, water and yeast to produce a sensational pint. Wednesday, February 13th from 5-8pm, Phil (owner/founder/maker) will be here pouring free samples of Wild Flower Session Mead, Ginger Session Mead, and Raspberry Session Mead.”

Golden Valley Brewery (McMinnville): Tomorrow, Valentine’s Day, they are releasing their Black Panther Imperial Stout: “Join us in welcoming back our Black Panther Imperial Stout! The BEST Valentine’s Day treat for you and your sweetie! We will be having DELICIOUS dinner specials and LIVE music performed by Dan Libonati!” Black Panther is 8.7% abv.

Deschutes Brewery (Bend): Their newest year-round offering, Deschutes River Ale, will be hitting the shelves in bottles in March: “Bottled Deschutes River Ale for the 1st time last night! We are so excited for craft beer fans to try this clean, crisp, & refreshing ale! On shelves where Deschutes beer is sold in mid-March.” The newest addition to their lineup, Deschutes River Ale is a 4% session beer.
