Oregon Beer News, 02/12/2016

Oregon BeerHappy Valentines Day weekend! This Sunday the 14th is also the state of Oregon’s birthday—157 years old, achieving statehood in 1859. Both occasions call for a beer! Here’s the news for the weekend of the 12th through 14th; as usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news, so check back often. And if you have news to share, please let me know and I can get that updated as well.

Zwickelmania is Saturday! It’s the statewide brewery open house taking place from 11am to 4pm: “More than 120 breweries, both big and small, are planning on participating with meet-the-brewer events and beer samples. Last year, more than 32,500 people toured 115 participating breweries statewide and the Oregon Brewers Guild is expecting that number to increase in 2016.” Hit the site up and check out the breweries—and shuttle routes—in your region; and for fun you can check out my Zwickelmania Bingo card generator to take along with you.

The annual KLCC Microbrew Festival starts today (Friday) in Eugene, and runs through tomorrow, Saturday the 13th. This festival raises funds for KLCC public radio, and features beer and cider pouring from many breweries along with live music and a homebrew competition rolled into it all as well. On top of that, Eugene-area breweries participate in an annual collaboration brew for this fest, with this year’s theme being “Iron Brewer”: “20 local breweries and taphouses randomly paired into 10 brewing “blind dates.” Five ingredients – 4 spices and a sap — were drawn from a hat and each pair took on the task of creating a tasty beer using their given ingredient.” Cost at this point is $15 at the door. Don’t miss it!

Friday evening, Bend’s Oblivion Brewing and North Rim Brewing are releasing a collaboration beer at Broken Top Bottle Shop from 5 to 8pm: “Come celebrate the release of Zeusifer Belgian Style Tripel – a collaboration between Oblivion Brewing Co. & North Rim Brewing! Free samples! Zeusifer on tap! BTBS’s own Jason Powell named this beer!”

Bend Brewing Company will be in Redmond Friday, at Redmond Craft Brewing Supply for a beer tasting from 5 to 7pm: “Josh from Bend Brewing Company will be sampling out BBC’s awsome beers!”

Migration Brewing (Portland): Saturday the 13th they are celebrating their 6th anniversary! “Migration is proud and excited to celebrate their 6 year anniversary. As always this party will be shared with the amazing Oregon Brewers Guilds Zwickelmania, meaning we will have one of the best brewery tours you can experience from 11AM-4PM. Jump on any of the amazing tour busses, your bike, best pair of walking shoes, or your favorite pogo stick and join us for an amazing beer filled afternoon on February 13th.” Great tap list posted as well! Congrats!

At Stammtisch in Portland, their Starkbier Fest continues this weekend at the German pub, featuring a taplist of exclusively German beers along with food specials that will run through Sunday the 14th.

Belmont Station (Portland): Starting Saturday the 13th and running through the 18th, head over to Belmont Sweet | Tart: A Celebration of the Dark & Sour Sides of Beer: “For many reasons we won’t go into here, February seems like the perfect month to celebrate both the dark and sweet beers alongside tart and sour ales. So from Feb. 13 through 18, we will be featuring four taps of stouts and other dark beers and another four taps pouring sour ales. Grab a flight of your favorite type or one of each and hunker down against this leap year’s extra day of cold and dark days.”

Sunriver Brewing (Sunriver) is celebrating the grand opening of their new Bend pub, located on Galveston Avenue in the former Oblivion brewpub space, this Zwickelmania, with live music and more continuing from 4pm on: “We will have a covered area to hang out next to our newly built back patio. Plus music by DJ Twitchdoktor form Portland, a Rippin Release toast at 5:30pm and FREE STUFF! Also note that prior to the Grand Opening we will be hosting Zwicklemania at this new location from 11am-4pm. Primal Cuts will be pairing some of their favorite meats and cheeses with some of our special release brews. Including Imperial Cocoa Cow, Resin Nation Dbl IPA, Cinder Beast Imperial Red and Bog Frog Wheat IPA.”
