Oregon Beer News, 02/12/2015

Oregon BeerWe’re almost to the end of the week and a busy weekend! Here’s the Oregon beer news for Thursday, February 12. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.

The Commons Brewery (Portland) has two big bottle releases coming out this week:

On Thursday, 5pm this year’s vintage of Brotherly Love will be available. Brotherly Love is our belgian dark strong ale aged in 2nd use Bourbon barrels with sour cherries and a blend of Trinidadian and Ecuadorian cacao nibs roasted by Woodblock Chocolate. 2014 and 2015 will be tap! Come down and get a perfect Valentine’s Day treat. Bottles are limited and will be $12 each.

On Saturday, 2pm, Boysen our next seasonal will be available. Bottled at the request of our tasting room regulars, Boysen is a strong dark farmhouse ale with Boysenberries added during fermentation. This is a full bodied beer with notes of bittersweet chocolate, berry jam and dark fruit. Bottles will be $9 each.

These will be available in their tasting room—do not miss out!

McMenamins Edgefield (Troutdale) has a limited-edition beer tasting tonight starting at 5pm, featuring a beer named Funk in the Trunk… yep. “This is a funky, fruity, slightly tart beer. We used over 330 pounds of peach puree, 5 pounds of orange peel, and a big late addition of Mosaic hops to make this next-level fruit beer shine. After 6 months of aging in a black rabbit red barrel with brettanomyces, tart, funky, and fruity esters have grown to complement the original fresh peach and tropical fruit flavors.” Sounds pretty darn interesting, and drinkable at 5.93% abv.

The Bier Stein (Eugene) is hosting a new beer release from California’s Sierra Nevada Brewing today, along with a few special extras. “Come on down and sample Nooner Pils, Hop Hunter IPA, and Beer Camp Hoppy Lager, three new beers from Sierra Nevada that hit the shelves this year. In addition to these, we’ll have 2013 Ovila Quad with plums, Maillard’s Odyssey, and Peppy Rye-Biscus (Dave’s Beer Camp Collaboration) on tap. Samples will be given and swag will be raffled.” The event is from 6 to 8pm.

Full Sail Brewing (Hood River): Their February Brewmaster Dinner is taking place tonight at their main pub, starting at 5pm (open seating). It’s four courses and this month’s theme is “Wonderful World of Beer.” The four courses include a lox roll paired with Session Export Lager, pasta paired with IPA, cioppino paired with Pilsner, and frozen chocolate souffle paired with Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Stout. The dinner is $40 which is a great deal for what you get.

Ground Breaker Brewing (Portland) has the release of a new beer, Olallie Ale, along with the launch of a Kickstarter campaign to raise money so that they can start canning. About the beer release: “Olallie is brewed with blackberries and rose hips and then finished with copious amounts of Crystal hops for a classic Northwest aroma. At the same time Olallie has been kept light and dry with only a hint of bitterness. Olallie Ale is 4.5% ABV and 30 IBUs… On Thursday, February 12th, we will be celebrating the release of Olallie Ale by offering a berry beer flight that also includes Corsa Rose Gold, New Planet Beer Raspberry Ale, and Dogfish Head Beer Tweason’ Ale.” If they reach their Kickstarter goal, Olallie Ale will be one of the two first beers to be canned (IPA No. 5 will be the other).

Belmont Station (Portland) is hosting Alameda Brewing today for a can tasting from 4 to 6pm: “Our friends at Alameda are canning it! Three of their most popular beers are now available in cans — P-Town Pils, Klickitat Pale Ale and Yellow Wolf Imperial IPA. Join Alameda’s Charlie Brown in the bottle shop to sample these three new cans and make sure to take some home too!”

Flat Tail Brewing (Corvallis) is in Silverton at the Gallon House for a beer tasting tonight starting at 7pm. Incidentally, Flat Tail recently began canning—so I wonder if they’ll be pouring tasting samples from cans tonight?

The Green Dragon (Portland) is welcoming Estacada’s Fearless Brewing for their weekly meet the brewer tonight: “Tonight Ken Johnson of Fearless Brewing Company joins us in all his kilted glory. He brings with him: Mjolnir IPA, Loki Red Ale, Strong Scotch Ale, and Ichabod Pumpkin Ale. The grog flows at 5pm, the kilt speaks at 6pm.”
