Oregon Beer News, 02/11/2014

Oregon BeerHere is the beer news from around Oregon for Tuesday, the 11th of February. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that posted as well.

Cascade Brewing (Portland): Their Tap It Tuesday at the Barrel House tonight at 6pm is featuring “Live” Cherry Pre-Diesel: “a non-soured robust stout brewed with chocolate and roasted malts, organic black strap molasses and dark Belgian candi sugar, then aged in pinot barrels on sour pie cherries for six months. 9% | $8 Glass | $3 Taster”

Gigantic Brewing (Portland) has a cool event taking place at their tap room today starting at 3pm, where they are tapping five cask-conditioned pins of their new Bang On! ale, which is a fusion of the English Bitter and American Pale Ale styles. “Each one has a different hop added to the pin including two with experimental hops. The five different hops are: EX 881, EX 527, Australian Summer, Australian Sylvia, and Brewers Gold.” This sounds like a lot of fun and a great geeky experiment, attend if you can.

Full Sail Brewing (Hood River): This Thursday the 13th is Full Sail’s February Brewmaster Dinner taking place at their Pub starting at 5pm. “This month’s Brewmaster Dinner falls on the night before Valentine’s Day. What better an occasion to beat those Friday night, Valentine crowds and celebrate a day earlier? The theme for this four course feast is ‘Tuscan Tryst.'” You get four Italian-inspired courses all paired with Full Sail beers for $40.

Southern Oregon Brewing (Medford): Their Big Rack Imperial IPA is being released tomorrow: “9% abv, 100+ IBUs….. Did I get your attention? Good! Big Rack Imperial IPA Release at the SOB Taproom tomorrow. Bigger, Hoppier and Unfiltered! Prepare to have you palate assaulted!!” They note there are only 25 kegs available “for the entire state of Oregon”… seems like there’s been more of that in past years?

Three Creeks Brewing (Sisters) has a new IPA on tap: “Vaquero Sisters Style Ultra IPA ABC: 8.3% IBU: A Lot. Brewed for the Brewing News’ National IPA Championship, Vaquero is brewed in the Sisters tradition with over 4 lbs per barrel of Simcoe, Chinook, Amarillo, Citra, Calypso, and Bravo hop bursted in the kettle with a dry hop addition of Simcoe, Amarillo, Citra and Cascade. This new school ultra IPA pours a hazy golden color and features bright zesty and piney aromas with some tropical fruit, clean dry bitterness and massive amounts of hop flavor.” I really like the notion of the “Sisters tradition” even though there’s not a lot in the way of brewing “tradition” in Sisters yet (with Three Creeks only being five and a half years old). But it sure sounds good.
