Oregon BeerHere’s the news in Oregon beer for Friday, the 10th, and going into the weekend. I’m a little behind today with a bunch of other things going on, but I’ll update this post through the rest of the day, so if you have news to share, please contact me and I’ll get it updated.

Deschutes Brewery (Bend): They’ve postponed and rescheduled their Chocolate Beer Dinner from tomorrow night (Feb. 11th) to next month, on Saturday, March 10th. No word on why, exactly, but perhaps they’ll be able to have some additional specialty beers available by next month. At any rate, if you weren’t able to make it tomorrow, you should definitely mark the 10th of March down on your calendars—these will be a fantastic dinner.

The KLCC Microbrew Festival starts today in Eugene at 5pm, and continues tomorrow starting at 1pm. This will be a fun event with a lot of great breweries, a nice mix of large and small and not all from Oregon. I’ve plugged it several times this week already, so get over to Eugene already!

Pliny the Younger Watch: Ezra on the New School reports that Portland’s APEX is the next recipient of the much-sought-after Pliny the Younger from Russian River Brewing: “APEX has announced they will be tapping their keg this Saturday when the bar opens at 11:30am. They will also have some extra treats on tap to accompany it.” Sounds like there will also be plenty of other California IPAs on hand as well, to keep the hopheads  happy.

McMenamins Old St. Francis School (Bend) has been pouring their special limited-edition beer flight all day today, featuring a sample tray for $5 of three special beers: Hammer Strike, a sour wood-aged version of Hammerhead Ale; Whiskey Brown, their Sleepy Hollow Nut Brown aged in Hogshead Whiskey barrels; and Blind Ambition IPA, a dry-hopped version of the OSF’s house IPA. They started pouring at 11am this morning and will only last until they are gone.

Block 15 Brewery (Corvallis): Tomorrow, Saturday the 11th, is the Portland release of their much-coveted Pappy’s Dark and Super Nebula beers, at the Hop & Vine from 3 to 6pm. In addition to the bottled beers, there will also be some of Block 15’s other rare offerings: Figgy Pudding, Imagine, Print Master’s Pale, and Caves Saison. If you’re in Portland this is one release you should not miss!

Solera Brewery (Parkdale): Tomorrow at the Volcanic Bottle Shoppe in Hood River, Solera is celebrating their Debut Release Party from 6 until 9pm: “Solera’s first batches of beer are done, and Jason Kahler and John Hitt, owners of Solera Brewery, will be at the shoppe to celebrate their release! We will have their Parkdale Red and IPA on tap, Matt Mesa and Kerry Williams will provide us with some great tunes, and there will be hors d’oeurves. Join us and be the first to taste the awesome beer from Parkdale’s newest brewery!” Get in there and get the first taste not only from Parkdale’s newest brewery, but one of Oregon’s newest as well.

This Sunday is the Brewpublic / Saraveza My Beery Valentine specialty beer event featuring an absolutely amazing line-up of special one-off Valentine’s Day-themed beers from some of the region’s best breweries. Seriously this is one of those beer events that make me wish I lived in Portland. It runs all day, from 11am to midnight, and there are no tickets required to enter: you just buy the beer! (Sample trays will also be available.) And: “Dessertif and delicioso decadent ales will be married with the tantalizing treats of Sugar Pimp, Saraveza’s own Lori Adams Clinton’s divine cupcakes.” There will be four treats from Sugar Pimp, available at $5 each; check out the Brewpublic post for that list.

Fort George Brewery (Astoria): I blogged the other day about how Fort George was releasing their Sunrise Oatmeal Pale Ale in cans as the fourth beer in their distribution lineup; now, they are holding the release party for the canned OPA on the 23rd of this month (Thursday): “Come hang out at PDX’s longest running Sunrise Oatmeal Pale Ale tap, the Liberty Glass for a Can Release Party!  Fort George will be hanging out with their go-to OPA cans in hand to celebrate the release of this beer in 16oz pounders just in time for Spring.  Local Astorian Folk mastermind, Michael Hurley, will be hanging out playing music and there will be Fort George specials all night.  If you’ve never been to Liberty Glass, it’s the awesome pink house on the corner of Mississippi, just off of Interstate [5 in Portland].” The party runs from 7 to 10pm.
