Oregon Beer News, 02/07/2014

Oregon BeerTGIF and I hope you like snow! Amid all the obligatory beer-in-snow pictures being posted, there’s a bit of beer news here and there as well. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news, so check back often for updates. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.

The venerable KLCC Microbrew Festival kicks off today over in Eugene, running today from 5 to 11pm and tomorrow (Saturday) from 1 to 11pm. It takes place at Eugene’s Lane Events Center and will be featuring some 150-plus beers served by 65 breweries, as well as announcing the winners of the annual KLCC homebrew competition. And of course there’s the Collaboration Brew which is awesome: “Each year, Eugene area brewers work together to create a Collaboration Brew specifically for this Festival. Following last year’s Tour of the British Isles, brewers chose to continue showcasing European style beers with A Tour of Germany. Participating breweries each chose a sub style of German beer to brew, deciding the recipe on their own. The common thread is that every beer is of German origin and most follow the German Purity law of 1516, or Reinheitsgebot. Taste them all and enjoy the Tour!” If you can brave the weather to get there, it costs $15 at the door for the souvenir glass plus 3 tickets.

Worthy Brewing (Bend): Their first anniversary week is continuing but due to the weather it’s been scaled back a bit; Saturday’s big party will move indoors with the live music as with the amount of snow and weather a heated tent in the biergarden won’t work out. So the big outdoor party will be postponed but music will still start at 5pm tomorrow, along with beer and food specials. Today is their “Firkin Friday” starting at 4pm; the beer “will be our dry hopped Go Time Extra Pale (GTX). It was the first beer we ever made and Chad and the brew crew are bringing back for our 1 year! $3 firkin pints, until its gone, and Hoppy Hour until 530p.”

The BeerMongers (Portland) tomorrow from 5 to 11pm has a special tapping of a beer from a “Stout Bout” homebrew competition: “Dean Ehnes was our winner at our stout bout home brew competition. We had 64 entries and his is a American style stout. His 1/4 bbl. keg will be tapped at Beer mongers 2/8/14 at 5PM. Come give Dean a pat on the back and have a pint of this awesome beer.”

Plank Town Brewing (Springfield): This Sunday the 9th they have a bottle release for a Double IPA named UnObtainium—their first bottle release! “Come celebrate our first bottle release on February 9th and obtain your very own bottle of our new double IPA. UnObtainium will invade your senses with an impressive array of hops and follows up with an intense, malty backbone fading to a rich warm finish. 10.5% ABV, 99 IBU”

Hopworks Urban Brewery (Portland): They have a big beer (12.2%!) with an even better name and picture going on tap: Eis Eis Baby. “Warm up with something as cold as Eis; our Eis Eis Baby Eisbock. Made by freezing a dopplebock and removing the ice to concentrate the flavor, this hearty brew will sustain the soul through any snowy day. On at SE Powell today and BikeBar tomorrow.” And yes, click the link and bask in the Vanilla Ice image reference…

Sunriver Brewing (Sunriver) has a new beer going on tap: Adopt-a-Trail Pale Ale. “This American style pale ale has a mild, grainy sweetness and a deep golden color. Galaxy hops give this beer its unique tropical fruit finish. Balanced, moderately hoppy and easy to drink – this beer is the ideal companion for a day on Central Oregon’s trails.”
