Oregon Beer News, 02/05/2015

Oregon BeerThursdays always seem to be busy days for tasting events, for some reason. The roundup is below for this Thursday the 5th of February. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often. If you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that posted as well.

Belmont Station (Portland) tonight is hosting formerly-Oregon Amnesia Brewing from 6 to 8pm for their 10th anniversary Barleywine release: “Join us for Amnesia Brewing’s release party for the 10th Anniversary Barley Wine. The biercafe will have the Barleywine on draft along with Milk of Amnesia Stout. Sean and the Beer Lady will be pouring samples of Barley Wine along with Damnesia IPA & Dusty Trail cans in the beer store … A very limited amounted of these 22 oz. bottles will be available as well.”

McMenamins Old Church & Pub (Wilsonville) has a special beer tasting tonight starting at 5pm (and like always, lasting until the beer is gone), featuring Little Miss Citrus IPA: “If you’re a hop head, then prepare to fall in love with this bold and aggressively hopped little beauty. We’ve taken our Prime Meridian IPA and upped the ante by adding a healthy dose of grapefruit and orange peels as well as a heavy helping of citra hops. Each sip lures you in with notes of tangerines, lemon zest, and fresh cut pine. We couldn’t pack more citrus into this smooth Northwst IPA if we wanted to!”

The Bier Stein (Eugene) has a tasting today featuring the beers from Base Camp Brewing‘s recent Collabofest, from 6 to 9pm tonight: “Portland’s Base Camp Brewing is bringing their goods, and then some; the Collabo Fest is in Portland on 1/24, but Base Camp decided to take the show on the road to Eugene! Ten other Portland breweries paired up to create ten unique beers, and we’ll have them all on tap! The paired-up breweries are as follows: Base Camp & Coalition, Ecliptic & Stormbreaker, Gigantic & Ex-Novo, Hopworks & Baerlic, and Breakside & Fat Heads. Come on down for some of the most original brews around!”

Broken Top Bottle Shop (Bend): In addition to day two of their 3rd anniversary (including free live music from 7 to 9pm tonight) BTBS is hosting Sisters’ Three Creeks Brewing for a tasting and release of Three Creeks’ new TenPine Chocolate Porter. In addition to free samples, TenPine will also be on tap. The event runs from 5 to 7pm, just before music kicks off.

Ground Breaker Brewing (Portland) will be in Eugene tonight at Vanilla Jill’s for a special beer night, where they “will be bringing a special batch of our Coffee Pale Ale made with vanilla, cinnamon, chili peppers, and Holy Kakow Chocolate.” This batch is their Mexican Chocolate Pale Ale, and they’ll be pouring from 5 to 8pm and handing out swag.

The Green Dragon (Portland) has their weekly meet the brewer night today, and they are hosting Jason Barbee of Ex Novo Brewing who will be pouring and talking about their Cardinal Sin IPA, Cats Away Sour Weisse, Gose Either Way, and Moonstriker. Beers usually start pouring at 5pm, with the meet the brewer portion starting at 6.

Full Sail Brewing (Hood River): The 2015 edition of their amazing Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Stout has been released! This only appears on odd-numbered years (swapping with Imperial Porter on even years), and is 10.5% abv. “Brewed in December of 2013, the beer was carefully aged for a year in Kentucky Bourbon casks from Jim Beam and Four Roses.” And tonight at their main pub, they’re holding a special horizontal tasting starting at 5pm, featuring the final blend (with the two bourbons) and a version of the Imperial Stout from each single bourbon barrel—so you can try three in all, side-by-side. (Next Tuesday the 10th the Pilsner Room will host the Portland release and tasting.)

Hopworks Urban Brewing (Portland): Their latest e-newsletter is out, and they have additional details on the potato beer(!) they brewed with Idaho’s Payette Brewing that I blogged about last month: “Potato Gun is the resulting beer, created with over 50 pounds of organic Idaho purple potatoes and a load of Amarillo, Crystal, and Zeus hops. The beer will be on tap at Hopworks Urban Brewery and Hopworks BikeBar on Wed. Feb. 18th. We are also throwing a Potato Gun Party at The Civic Taproom in Portland, on Thursday, February 19th. Both breweries will be represented on draft, and you can also look forward to potato menu items and brewery giveaways.”
