Oregon Beer News, 01/26/2017

Oregon BeerHere is the Oregon beer news for Thursday, January 26. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often. If you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that posted as well.

Portland’s Migration Brewing is Celebrating the Craft today with a special showcase event for the region’s beer scene, with some of the proceeds benefiting a good cause: “All Beer is Craft, but not all Beer is Crafted the same way. Join us in Migration Brewing’s Annex space, (2828 NE Glisan) for a chance to taste a variety of rare and unique beers and to meet the artisans from some of the best breweries in Portland. Brewers include Hopworks Urban Brewery, Coalition Brewing, Baerlic Brewing Co., Breakside Brewery, Stormbreaker Brewing, BREWPUBLIC, Fat Head’s Portland, The Commons Brewery, and Great Notion Brewing! 10% of the Event’s proceeds will go to benefit the National Brain Tumor Society. Special Menu featuring a collaboration between Ben Meyer of Old Salt Marketplace & Travis Surmi of Migration Brewing.” The event starts at 6pm and lasts all evening.

Ross Island Brewing (Portland): Today is their official (soft) opening day! “We’ve dotted the i’s and crossed the t’s and now it’s official! #RossIslandBrewing will be opening the doors for the first time [today] at 3PM! Come on down and meet our fantastic crew, and drink some of our fantastic brew. 1/26 only we’ll be open from 3PM to 12AM for our soft opening, then regular hours to start this weekend. We can’t wait to meet you guys!” Of the nine taps they posted the other day, three of those are Ross Island collaboration beers, so they even have some of their own on tap right out of the gate. Welcome to Portland’s (and Oregon’s) newest brewery!

The Bier Stein (Eugene) is welcoming Sierra Nevada Brewing for a tasting tonight from 6 to 9pm: “The OG craft brewery from Chico, CA has some new tricks– Sidecar Pale Ale with Orange, and Tropical Torpedo IPA. We’ll tap those, along with a teaser flight for the upcoming STOUTBIERZEIT: 4 years of Narwhal Imperial Stout – 2012, 2013, 2014, and the most recent Trip in the Woods beer, Bourbon Barrel Narwhal with Red & Black Currant!” That Narwhal flight sounds worth the price of admission alone (which is free, but still).

PFriem Family Brewers (Hood River) posted about their latest beer the other day, their new Vienna Lager: “Introducing Vienna lager, part of our new Lager Seasonal line-up! This copper-colored beer has aromas of toasted bread and a kiss of malt accompanied by fresh scents of toffee. It boasts full and smooth flavors of caramel and nuttiness – finishing crisp with a touch of sweetness. 5.3%, 20 IBU’s.” I had a pint of this at Broken Top Bottle Shop last weekend, it was good.

And speaking of Bend’s Broken Top Bottle Shop, tonight they are hosting Portland’s Ex Novo Brewing for a tap takeover from 6 to 8pm: “Ex Novo Brewing is partially taking over our taps! Come by to get a taste of Eliot IPA, Mexican Lager, and Liquid Sweater!”

And speaking of Ex Novo Brewing, Portland’s Imperial Bottle Shop is hosting a fundraiser for Hosford Middle School tonight from 5 to 9pm, and the beer is donated by Ex Novo: “It’s time for our quarterly local public school fundraiser! This go-around the beer is being generously donated from Ex Novo Brewing and their local distributor Running Man Distributing! Beers on tap will include: The Most Interesting Lager in the World (Mexican-style lager), Eliot IPA, and Damon Stoutamire Stout. 100% of sales of those 3 draft options will be donated as follows: 50% to the Hosford Foundation’s “Library Everyday” fund. It’s an effort to make sure the Hosford Library Assistant position remains full time so the library is open everyday during all hours, instead of just half days or full time a couple days a week, which is all the Portland Public School system pays for. Kids need libraries! 50% to the Parent, Teacher, Student Association (PTSA) to help them pay for a teacher to staff Study Hall every morning.”

Claim 52 Brewing (Eugene) will be at 16 Tons in Eugene from 5 to 8pm for the release of their Westside IPA: “Join the Claim 52 crew and grab some pints of their awesome beers! Including: Westside IPA, Fluffy IPA, Kactus Kooler Pale, and We Smoked it All Stout.”

At The Civic Taproom in Portland, Base Camp Brewing is the brewery guest of honor for a tap takeover tonight from 6 to 9pm: “This week we are happy to have Base Camp as our tap takeover! We will be pouring Gnar Gnar IPA, Bretta Livin’ Cranberry, Coffee Bikes then Beer, and Dark Times Imperial Stout. Stop by between 6 and 9 pm to chat with a rep and win swag.”

Salem Ale Works will be in Beaverton tonight at Craft Pour House for a tap takeover starting at 6pm: “The crew from Salem Ale Works will be joining us Thursday and they are bringing some of their excellent beers for you to try. Tastings, raffle prizes, and a collection of special Oregon State Captiol high fives — They put the ALE in SALEM!”

At Suds & Suds in Corvallis, they are welcoming Astoria breweries Fort George Brewery and Buoy Brewing for a beer showcase from 6 to 9pm: “Tonight we welcome in Fort George & Buoy Brewing from the beautiful Oregon Coast! From 6 to 9 we will be showcasing their tasty brews and giving away prizes!”

Golden Valley Brewery (McMinnville): Their Black Panther Imperial Stout is out! “Black Panther 2017 debuts today! Find it in both our pubs and bottle shops around #PDX. Watch for Pinot Noir and Bourbon barrel aged versions to follow.”
