Here’s the Oregon beer news for Thursday, the 10th of January. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news, so check back often. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.

Golden Valley Brewery (McMinnville) is debuting their new Irish Red Thistle today, hitting the taps at both locations (McMinnville and Beaverton) at 3pm, and they’re offering $3 pints of the beer until the first keg blows. It’s 6% abv and an Irish malt version of their ESB-styled Red Thistle Ale: “A fresh malt aroma of authentic, malted Irish Heritage barley is balanced by classic earthy Willamette hops and the same British crystal and caramel malts as used in the Red Thistle.  The Irish base malt has just recently been available in the United States, and it adds a beautiful malt layer in an already soft English hop profile.” Don’t miss out!

McMenamins Edgefield (Troutdale): Tonight they have a limited-edition beer tasting starting at 5pm: Night Court Barrel-Aged Barleywine. Yes, like the 80’s sitcom. “You’ll have no objections by the time you’ve finished your glass of this Three Rocks Rum barrel-aged iteration of our Barley Legal barleywine. We decided to throw the book at it – and some whole vanilla beans – then put it in lockup for a month. Now that the flavors of vanilla, smooth American oak, spirits and the untamed hop-forward attitude of the original ale have comingled in to a complex and mellow reformed citizen, we’re prepared to release it in to society on parole for you to judge.” Barleywine in rum barrels? Yes please.

Claim 52 Brewing (Eugene), Eugene’s newest brewery operation, has a new beer on tap (continuing in the theme of January beer releases): “Claim 52 Kolsch* is now on tap! Ask your local server at Sixteen Tons (13th Ave), Laughing Planet South, or The Pantry and Pub for a pint. Don’t miss out on this tasty German-style pale! Hops: German and American Saphir, Sterling. ABV: 5.5%. IBU:22”  On tap in this case meaning, at the listed pubs (since Claim 52 is production).

Sasquatch Brewing (Portland) has their new release available too: “Celilo CDA is now on tap: A dark ale hopped with Summit, Chinook and Tomahawk with a malt backbone of Midnight Wheat. 7.6% abv and 82 IBU.” “Celilo” in this case refers to Celilo Falls, a tribal fishing spot on the Columbia River that was submerged by The Dalles Dam in 1957. (Yes, a bit of history even!)
