Happy hump day! Here’s the news in beer from around Oregon for Wednesday, the 8th of January. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news, so check back often for updates. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.
Gilgamesh Brewing (Salem): They have a new beer release hitting their taps today: “Come down… and try our new Pale Ale. It is a sessionable beer suited for a wide variety of drinkers. This Pale Ale has subtle bitterness, and is largely dry hopped to create an incredible aroma with grapefruit and tropical flavors. [W]e will be pairing this beer with an amazing Cottage Pie. The cottage pie is beef, onions, celery, carrots, tomato, herbs and is topped with mashed potatoes.”
GoodLife Brewing (Bend) will be at Beerworks in Medford tonight for a bottle and can tasting from 6 to 8pm. Beerworks also planning to have “something special” from GoodLife on tap for the event as well—my first guess would be their new winter seasonal porter, Yukon Cornelius.
Arch Rock Brewing (Gold Beach): They are brewing up a batch of Pistol River Pale Ale today, one of the regular beers in their lineup (they have three). Always good to get updates from the remote coast!
Rogue Ales (Newport): Tomorrow their Eugene Public House is holding a special meet the brewer and tasting: “Join us this Thursday at 5:30pm for Meet the Brewer night with Sam Scoggin. He’ll be behind the bar, pouring Hurdle Cascadian Dark Ale, Pole Vault Porter and other great Track Town and Rogue Ales.”
Santiam Brewing (Salem) is holding a talk and demo (read: drinking!) on cask conditioned ales tonight: “Join us tonight for a brewery tour, a talk and demonstration about cask conditioned ales @ 6:30 PM. Also, Oregon Crêpe Company will be serving a delicious variety of German sausage, Pulled Pork sliders, Stomboli and some sweet and savoury crêpes from open to close tonight.”
Lompoc Brewing (Portland) has a beer release tomorrow at the Oaks Bottom Public House, featuring their Illegally Blonde Stout: “Pouring on nitro, this beer is blonde in color with a creamy mouthfeel coming from an addition rolled oats in the mash. The Fuggle hops give off a subtle tobacco and earthiness, followed by hints of vanilla and coffee. This beer was aged on vanilla beans for a week and had an addition of Ristretto Roasters cold press coffee added in the brite tank. This blonde stout will challenge any preconceived notions you may have about what a stout should be! 4.6% ABV” I’m not sure I really “get” the “blond” or light-colored stouts, but it does sound interesting.
